Windshield replacement

A few weeks ago I went to the dealer to have them check my intermitant wipers that weren't working. Indeed they were not working the tech said. I was told initially they had to order a replacement rain sensor. I was told they just had to remove the mirror to replace the sensor and I was glad to hear that. I got a call that my new windshield was in and I needed to schedule an appointment to have it installed. Evidently it's more than just removing the mirror.
I've read several people here had windshields replaced and weren't very happy. So, I'm not real happy about having it replaced either. I mentioned to the shop manager that I'd heard from people here that there were some problems with the replacements. :( He assured me they haven't had any problems and the techs had been trained by BMW to do the replacement. I feel a little better knowing it will be a BMW factory replacement windshield and that BMW is doing the work. I was told they would need two days to complete the project correctly.
This is a warranty issue so it won't cost me. I'm not a big believer of all the "bells and whistles" this car has. Too much stuff I don't really need. I like intermitant wipers, but why do they feel the car has to decide for me? I was always content to just set the speed I wanted with other systems.
In 2003 I bought a new truck, and the first week I owned it a small rock hit the windshield. A few days later it had to be replaced and I'm glad to say it went smoothly and has never been a problem.

I had my windscreen replaced for the same reason. The reason it takes 2 days is it needs to cure once installed. I would not worry if BMW are doing it, don't accept the car back unless it is perfect. I'm sure it will be fine.

Two days My A**E I had mine done in about 4 hrs including curing and refitting all the trim. It was done under my insurance and replaced by RAC autowindscreens locally. Top job too!

Dealer is unlikely to do it themselves as they won't be trained. They will probably get an external guy to come onsite to replace it. That's what I understand usually happens anyway.

Two Days, Pah!

Yep, same here dealer has a company that does the work for them. having the dealer replace will get you a windshield with the BMW logo on it, if that is important to you...

Just for anyone reading this who has problems with their auto wipers....You don't need to have the windscreen replaced if you do it yourself. It's an easy fix which can be done in less than hour which I have done.

Anyone who wants the info can pm me or look up some of my old posts.

Me too - done on the drive in less than 2 hours. Request not to drive until the evening but a minimum of 2 more hours after job finished to allow cure and that's it.
Remedial work on trhe shoddy trim refit took longer , but that's another story....
