Windshield replaced---NOT HAPPY!

Took the car to BMW on Monday. Left it for windshield replacement(Warranty). They said it would take two days but they had the car all week since I work out of town Tuesday through Friday. The shop is closed on Saturday but the shop manager said no problem picking it up, just ask a salesman and they'll get the keys for you. I get a ride there and see it sitting in the lot when we arrived. I couldn't wait to get the car back. I went over to the car to have a look at the work that had been done. :x The plastic trim piece that goes all the way across the bottom of the windshield doesn't fit flush to the windshield. There are places that it hits the glass, but there is more surface that doesn't hit the glass at all. There's about 1/4" gap at several points. It's just wavy. I can't believe the guy that did the work was OK with that, and I'm even more surprised the shop manager would have let that slide.

I did get a salesman and showed him why I wasn't accepting the car. I left it there and I'll have to deal with it on Monday.
I thought I saw a similar situation here from someone. Was it not reinstalled correctly? Did they warp the piece trying to get it off? Missing screws or clips or something? I'll need to do some searching here to see what went wrong. :( I'm thinking if they did warp the piece when removing it, it might never regain it's original shape and never fit right!

Hehe, not only did you see someone describing a similar problem, you saw it in a thread with an almost identicle name to yours

It was mine, and yes one of the problems was the plastic trim not sitting flush along most of the glass  One or two clips hadn't been pushed in properly and some were missing/broken. Lazy refitter not taking care when removing it or refitting it. It was said that once warped, it'll be very hard for it to regain it's shape. The guy that did mine had used some of his sticky "tape" (not really a tape but it comes in a roll like tape) to keep one end down, but it was right at the top edge of the plastic, so visable and it's thickness held the plastic trim off the glass.

In the end I got the screen replaced again and a new trim fitted too, this was done as part of the fitting companies warranty. Now it looks as good as new

I don't really know yet whether there would be a problem with the new windshield. I wouldn't think so, but maybe it's not sitting down far enough which created a fitting problem with the trim plastic? I wouldn't doubt the original trim piece is now beyond fitting correctly. I'll post an update when I know something.
I do repair work myself (not automotive) and I can honestly say when my repairs get back to the constomer they are right and in some cases the units look better than when they came in. There's no way I would have had the nerve to give this car back to the customer like that.

The windscreen on mine was only replaced again because of a scratch the guy did when fitting the first replacement, so not really related to the plastic trim. It was just a shoddy job all round. It's hard to believe someone can take such little care in what they do when it's with some so expensive that belongs to a customer.

Well, I went to pick up the car again yesterday (Saturday and service dept. was closed). Good news---everything looked as it should. The bottom trim piece was nice and flush all the way across the windshield. I'm a happy guy.
So I go driving a little and decide to go get something to eat. As I turned a few corners I noticed a bump sound so when I parked the car I opened the trunk to have a look. The sound I heard was my owners manual case. I picked it up and noticed it was wet! :x I felt the floor and it felt damp. When I got home I took a better look. I took the panel out that covers the battery and water started dripping off it. I looked into the battery compartment and saw about 1/2" of water in the bottom. I ended up pulling the flooring out 'cause it was wet all the way up to the sidepanels which were also damp. I wiped everything as dry as I could and let a fan blow in there for a few hours. I called the dealer and left a nasty message on their voicemail.
Now I'm trying to figure out what the hell happened. I've never been in a heavy downpour with the car, but I've washed it at least 20 times and have never had a damp trunk that I know of. The car had been at the dealers for about 2 weeks. I was thinking someone might have left the trunk open and left it out in the rain or maybe the trunk was slightly open and someone power washed it and didn't realize it until it was too late.
Have there been issues with these cars having a leak that ended up with water in the truck? :(

Oh no, reminds me of the time ROADCAR, while under warranty, had a battery failure. It was a Saturday, the sun was shining and the top was down. Called for assistance, the car was trailered to the dealership for battery replacment. I instructed the trailer driver (and he wrote it on the order) that the car cover was to be used because the top was down, in case no one noticed!

Picked up my car the following Tuesday. It took an hour for them to drive the car out. My leather seats were quite wet. It took 2 days of top down sunshine to dry them out. The DEALERSHIP left Roadcar OUTSIDE, TOP DOWN, Saturday, Sunday and Monday and it rained. No one will ever know the fury I unleashed on that dealership and although it is 6 years later, it is still a sore spot with me. I have not gone back to that dealership and they did not get any stars from me on that followup call about their service.

I checked my interior today and no hint of dampness. I parked it out in the warm sunlight, everything felt dry, so I put everything back together. There was a rectangular box in with the battery and part of it was in water. I pulled it out to get a look and I think I'm OK. I think it's the electronics for the audio system. I think only the heat sinks were in the water and none of the actual electronics. I checked all the functions and listened for any distortion. Checked the fader and balance functions to be able to hear all the speakers and all the channels.
I did notice something I didn't notice before though. Whether the audio system is on or off, when turning the key to the first position, there is a slight audible pop through the speakers. Also the same sonario, when turning off the engine, the last turn position of the key, (the one that will let you pull the key out)once again there is an audible pop through the speakers. I can't remember if it was always like that or if this is a new thing. Of course, I know I'm now paranoid of potential damage that could have occurred.
