Oops, I never saw the original chip as it's behind the mirror from where I sit.

10 days before I can get a replacement fitted!!

it'll be fine for now.

make sure they fit the correct one (first one i had didn't fit at the bottom) and that the seal they put in doesn't crack at the corners.

How'd that crack like that?

I got my screen changed last year under the insurance... No bother really!

My new windscreen was available for fitting the day after I'd called the insurer/National Windscreens.

Didn't get it fitted until a couple of days later though due to my schedule, but it was the correct one with green band & rain sensor area and was a proper Pilkington one.

Although I did get my first tiny stone chip a day later :headbang:

It is not my daily drive so it can stay off road for a while, but it's such fun to drive I shall miss it for a week or so.

I'm not sure how it happened I think I remember hearing a stone hit but didn't see a chip, the location of the now visible chip is behind the mirror invisible from the drivers seat. I can only imagine that the temperature change, zero overnight to 20 odd during the day caused the crack to occur.

I'm also not sure why Autoglass are taking a week, online I could book this Monday but when confirmed over the phone, the first home visit was a week later and the first appointment at the local branch was next Saturday.

I don't have the green band, does that mean it's already been incorrectly replaced? Should I be asking one with a green band? It does have rain detection.

Cheers guys.

I have had the misfortune to use Autoglass a few times in the last 7 years on the E60, each time they have made a mess of the job, including fitting an incorrect screen as well as poorly fitted rain sensors, trim etc. They say they use OEM glass, but as we know there are usually several OEM suppliers, and the quality seems somewhat dubious.
I had a new screen fitted in the E85 last month and stated to insurance company I wanted BMW to fit a BMW screen, they obliged, and all is well.

Green band was an optional extra - not worth it in my limited experience as I can't see it's 1" of green from the driver's seat anyway so it's unlikely to be shading me from anything :headbang:
