Hello everyone,
We have had our new baby for 3 weeks now. It has been too cold to put the top down more than once or twice. The husband thinks we need a windscreen between the two seats in the rear. What do you think? Oh..we have an 07, stratus grey, tan interior, auto. We are in love with this car

Hello everyone!
We have a new to us 07 oi. She is stratus grey, auto, tan leather, 7000 miles. Gorgeous of course! Hubby thinks we need a windscreen between the two seats. Wind does not bother me. Opinions on this please?

Hi and welcome,

it is usually referred to as a wind deflector and yes it goes in between the hoops behind the seats to reduce wind buffering.

The OEM one is a mesh thing. there is also an aftermarket perspex one from a company in the US. think it was these guys. put cant find it now. they have some other toys too

Welcome

Mine had the wind deflector on it when i bought the car and the first thing i did was to remove it i do not like them on the car i drive top down both windows down its a soft top after all but thats my personal choice others do seem to like the deflector.

Hey there Baby Grey! Welcome to the forum, btw! As far as windscreens go, I would definitely suggest one. The difference is 100% when you experience a ride with one and without one. If you are looking for a decent windscreen, you should probably consider a few different factors:

1. Do you want mesh or lexan. I never suggest acrylic, but that's just me. Mesh is more for looks in my opinion, and out of the two I find lexan or glass to work better.

2. What is your budget? You can spend $400 getting one from Europe into the U.S. or you can find a cheap company offering a windscreen for $100.

3. Does it have a warranty? If it doesn't, it probably can't hold its own against the other windscreen manufactures. Just sayin'.

Also, check windscreen review websites. I really like windscreenreview.net, but there are a lot of other review sites out there. As far as manufacturers go, I did end up going with windblox for their reviews and lexan, but there are plenty of prospective companies there, too. Good luck in your hunt!

Hi and welcome - the wind deflector certainly reduces cold air into the cab area when the tops down and my wife likes it as here hair stays in place.....

Just to throw in my 2p worth I believe the opposite is true. BMW specifically designed the rear screen to be mesh. If you read the design book it shows how the wind rolls over the windsrcreen then is allowed partly to flow through the mesh at lower speed. The slows the airflow and reduces the draft. The solid screens look way better and don't diminish rear view, however as air passes over the screen it rolls into the cabin creating turbulence.

Now bottom line is their sports cars and it's never going to be static air so levels of expectation shoudl not be too high for either.
