Windscreen Washers Pipe Routing?

I'm trying to find a picture and/or diagram that shows where the washer pipe to the underside of the bonnet is supposed to be routed.

On our 2014 E89 2.0 it is clipped to the back of the top of the washer bottle (in the grove) after it leaves the pump then goes to the back of the bonnet via a small cut-out in the sound proofing. It extends when the bonnet is open but on closing it has been getting caught between the rubber seal along the back of the engine bay and the bonnet. I have to guide the pipe whilst closing the bonnet so it drops in to the gap at the back of the engine bay. The pipe is quite stiff as there is a cable taped to it which I assume is for heating the washers.

I want to fully remove the washer bottle at some point to clean it and pump filters as there is gunk coming out of the jets and the passenger side is a bit weak at the moment. When I put it back together I would also like to fix the pipe/seal trapping issue. I'm not convinced how it is at the moment is correct.

Thanks for any tips and pics. :)

Left of picture. Up the right strut. Should be a wire as well as the jets are heated.

Thanks flybobbie, that looks a lot more sensible and how I thought it might go somehow, from the picture looks like a plastic guide piece from the bottom of the strut and a cable tie at the top and Velcro? at the bottom. I will need to check but I don't believe I have the plastic guide bit, I might need a part number.

Yes I do have the wire, and I can now also see what the slot in the top of the washer tank is for when the guide is fitted.

I suppose I could use Velcro cable ties on the bare strut but would need to ensure the pipe is not compromised and that they don't slip up and down.

Based on the flybobbie picture and on closer inspection of our Z4 it looks as if the entire guide arm for the pipe is missing? This was a BMW Authorised Used car we purchased 18 months ago with 7,500 miles on the clock, we would have thought this would have been checked and rectified before we picked it up unless this part is not on the 2.0 version.

Any comments and part numbers much appreciated.

Thanks very much Smartbear for the pictures, no missing bits then, I thought it might be a change at the facelift as the older version only looks to have one gas strut to support the bonnet on the right and the other picture from flybobbie does not have the clip on top of the washer reservoir, still looks a bit half finished in my view but will just have to be careful of the pipe when shutting the bonnet. Maybe the original guide design was more bother than it was worth so BMW ditched it?

Just need to find out now why the passenger washer jet is weaker than the drivers and only squirts to the middle of the screen ….. :?

If you look at flybobbies pic again it’s not a gas strut supporting the bonnet as it’s inboard of where those are situated, it looks like a support strut for the screen washer pipe :?

Well, if that's the case I can't see any gas struts on flybobbie's?
My 64-plate seems to have a spare pair of ball joints on each side, on the bonnet as well, which look like an alternative mounting for the bonnet struts?
Did they change the strut layout on later cars and therefore couldn't run the washer pipe up the strut?

My 2009 23i has two gas struts. It seems the cars you have BMW have re-positioned the struts out board above the wing, which seems a bit rubbish design to me. I wonder why.
The right gas strut as a plastic guide the washer pipe and wires are attached to.
Your later cars the strut is on the "wrong" side of the rubber strip for the pipe to be attached to.

Yet it seems they left the old mounting points too......................at least, on mine?

I think it’s something to do with the pedestrian friendly bonnet system that came in with the lci cars, rams throw the bonnet up by several inches after a collision to lessen any injuries

Or to launch them into the undergrowth so you can continue, no questions asked. :?
