Windscreen Washer Jets Ruining My Hard Work!

So I spent most of Saturday washing the Zed, the full works. Foam bath, rinse, washed with two bucket method, clay bar and AG super resin polish. Finished off with tyre dressing and was about to do the windows, but the other half arrived, so had to stop washing the car!

Anyway, beacuse I didn't get a chance to wash the windscreen and windows with the glass cleaner, I gave them a quick blast with the washer jets this morning, now my lovely shiny bonnet has streaky windscreen wash marks all the way down it. :headbang:

Does this happen to everyone? It's really annoying.

you know what i think you have read my mind, spent 6 hours cleaning mine on Saturday and now im scared to use the washers!! mine only sprays the headlights sometimes though. not sure why it does it sometimes and not others?

Think you'll find it's only every 4th or 5th time and only when the lights are on.

Some have pulled the fuse on the headlight washers, but just remember to put it back for the MOT.

I advise you not to use them! It'll ruin your hard work!

Mine does the headlights, most of the time, and some spray from the headlights splashes onto the bonnet, but also when I use the main washers, the jet leaves spray marks on the bonnet too. :x

Unplug the multiplug for the headlight washer pump on the windscreen wash bottle (it's the upper pump in case you were wondering)... jobs a good'un ;)

Thanks! I'll give it a go. Simply just unplug and that's it? It's easy to plug back in at a later date?

But then you can't squirt cyclists with them who are on the roads causing chaos instead of using the multi million pound cycle paths!!

Put destilled water in the bottle, that does not streak if mixed with the original BMW windscreen cleaner.

wouldn't dream of it :D there isn't one along the south circular anyway :D

Yeah this bugs me too :(

Looking forward to summer when the car will be able to stay cleaner for longer :)

Good idea, I'm going to do this, it's a pita when the headlight washers spray all over the bonnet :x

not if it causes congestion, hazard or danger to other road users when there is a perfectly good cycle lane - I'm a hybrid and road bike owner/user!!

Trouble is where I am about half the cycle lanes are shared with pedestrians.... 18-20mph bikes and pedestrians dont make a good mix. about a third of the rest are shared bus lanes, bikes and buses - hmmm....

I don't see my cycling as causing chaos, hazards or danger and certainly not congestion. In fact its 5 times quicker through london on a bike.

I do see how some cyclists actions are not to the same er... standard...

I turn the lights off before squirting the washers but only if the car is clean... If its filthy like it is now then I just leave them on and let the washers do what they're supposed to do as the lights would be more than likely filthy anyway :D

Only thing that really bugs me is the splash trail thing the jets on the bonnet leave between them and the windscreen. I'll never understand why BMW couldn't fit the jets at the scuttle panel position like they were on my A3! This would eliminate this problem and also make the bonnet lines alot cleaner and less to mask when polishing and waxing! :x

Exactly! Unplugging the headlight washer jets might solve one of the problems, but I still get streaks from the main washers. How infuriating. Oh well!

Roll on summer! :driving:
