Windscreen Surround Needed

Seems rather hard to find a supplier of the genuine OEM Windscreen surround. Anyone know a good place to source one.

Took a big hit to the windscreen from crap flying off the back of a Skip Lorry without a Tarp in the M25. Autoglass chap recommended a new screen and proceeded to warn that their seals and aftermarket seals don't fit great and look terrible. Also suggested the aftermarket screens aren't the greatest either. He has requested an OEM screen but likely that my insurance company will deny... trying to source my own seal so at least that bit is right!

Thanks

How much are they from BMW?

Didn't appear to have the E86 one available, just the E85 which is a slightly different part No. Will try another main dealer tomorrow...

Main dealer is the only real way to get them I found, but not one of those items that seems to have the usual BMW premium. So not worth gambling getting elsewhere.

My experience was that it's more the rubber surround you want to ensure is OEM. The glass doesnt seem to be so much of a problem as long as its stamped pilkington or similar well known manufacturer - I think they supply to BMW who just add their stamp actually.
Still push for OEM glass from your insurer if you can get it but it is definitely the OEM rubber surround that you MUST insist on.

Hi Penelope my seal was all dry and cracked went to dealers £35 dead easy to fit. Just pull the old one off it has metal in the rubber 15 minute job. Hope that helps good look with getting the seal. :driving:  :roundel:

Make autoglass ask your insurer then at least you know.

I did two screens in three months last year and both times autoglass went back to Aviva who agreed BMW screen and gasket (seal) OK I had to wait a few days more but well woth it.

Autoglass seals normaly come boxed to shape like a goal post - the BMW ones were folded like a knot both times and they just sprang into shape - so much more flexible, so much easier to fit and so far better job.

Get on the phone and hasstle crap out of them

Autoglass have put in the request with my insurer eSure. I checked through the smallprint and there is no mention of restrictions on using OEM so I will argue the toss. Incidentally, whilst checking through my policy documents I noticed they had the car down as a 3.0 SI SE Coupe and not a 3.0 SI Sport Coupe. They informed me that I was therefore not technically insured and charged me £80 for the subsequent policy change and admin fee. Joy

Did you tell them it was an SE or a sport when you insured it initially? :?

Wouldn't have said SE but they said it's my legal responsibility to correct any mistakes within 14 days of taking out the policy...

I bought mine from BMW Sheffield a few months ago - £29. Fitted it myself but a bit of a PITA. :driving:

Have you checked yours isn’t an optioned SE. Sounds daft, but there are a few around.

Assume your headlining is anthracite?

It sounds like if is a Sport then as you've got the full list of Sport bits, including wheels. I'd be amazed if anyone put all those on an SE as options when they could have just bought a Sport in the 1st place!
