Windscreen replacement...(warning rant)

Had to replace the windscreen on the Coupe due to a number of stone chips.
Didn't think it would be a problem as it would be through the insurance and replaced at home.
Problem 1 - after smashing and partially removing the glass, the fitters realise that the rubber window surrounds are for a Z3 coupe. I was informed that the boxes had been relabelled Z4, but the Z3 sticker was underneath.
Solution - tape up the smashed window and return 3.5 hours later with the correct parts and replace.
Subsequent Problem 2 - I've been stranded at home for 4 hours and, due to working shifts, have had to contact work and take 2 hours off (start late)
I'm still waiting for the windscreen adhesive to bond/cure, so can't comment on the quality of work.

Is it worth filing a complaint with the insurance company or Windscreen company (in the hope of a refund ~ insurance excess) or just put it down to bad luck?

.....finally, todays lesson is; Please chat to the fitters prior to any work been done to ensure they have the correct parts

Rant over,

Happy :driving:

Alistair

Keep your eye open for leaks and condensation on the windscreen, as I've seen a good few not sealed properly.

were the fitters Autoglass by any chance?

Useless gits managed to cause around £800 worth of damage to my Z and my girlfriend's car last year after some little scrotes broke both drivers side windows looking for bus change or hop-hip records or whatever it is these little fuckers take from cars these days… still, the would-be thieves actually treated the cars with more respect that the autoglass technician.

That said, Autoglass themselves handled my complaint very well, once I'd managed to get phone numbers/email addresses for the right people & sent a cheque to cover the damage quite quickly.

Autoglass wouldn't touch my old z4 3.0 when the screen went because they said bmw would have to recode the sensor in the screen for the wipers/headlights.

Got the insurance to cover the new screen fitted by BMW with oem parts, too bad they scratched my paintwork in doing so and left the interior in a right state - sigh!

Auto Windscreens have just replaced the 120d w/screen, sensor unclipped and went back on without problems different vehicle I know but sensor on 08 120d looks identical to the 07 Z4
and auto lights/wipers still work fine :?
Job was carried out perfectly no sign of replacement work except absence of large cracks in screen very impressed

mmm-five, good suggestion about condensation.
Tested the auto wipers whilst driving, work fine, checked the auto lights by covering the sensor with my hand, again it worked fine (but my neighbours must think i'm strange stood in the rain, hand on the windscreen!)
Put it down to bad luck with AW. Logged the issue with them and the insurance company, and hopefully lessons learnt.
Now I can drive again.

Had a screen replaced, in my old e39, under insurance with Autoglass, was never the same since. Permanent hushed whistle that I swear wasn't there before hand. Totally ruined the car for me from then on :(

Windsceen? Are you discussing the OEM windscreen? I thought they were mesh or cloth or something comparable. I chose to purchase a Windscreeen from Windrestictor, custom made. My WR lights up and has heart with My Fetish, shown in my signature. Love it :!:

UK Windscreen = USA Windshield

(The one with the wipers)

Blimey, you young codgers should have been around in the days before laminated screens, when they used to just put a blanket over the dash and seats and smash the remains of the screen into the car! LOL

And you'd be finding bits of the screen for weeks/months afterwards :x
