Windscreen mist

Quite often in the cold weather when I get in the car in the morning and start the engine the inside of the windscreen is either misted up or will mist up. Putting the aircon on full blast (the max cool button) makes it worse and it takes a few minutes to clear. I put the aircon on in the theory it dries the air, but guess it also has to warm up a bit.

Is it normal to mist in this way?

Have you got the recirculating button pressed? I find that makes misting worse.

When was the last time the cabin micro filter changed? This if dirty could be your problem.

I used my air con to demist whilst driving a Toyota MR2.
Within 20 seconds of switching off the screen completely misted over.
Scary as i couldn't see where i was going.
Never used it since to clear the screen.

I find it depends on the weather, some mornings my van will take ages to clear, then the next day it clears in a few seconds. What you need is an electric demister, like our Fiesta has

Why don’t you press the demist button on the aircon system?

You have a blocked anti pollution filter/micro filter or a small amount of water in the car from somewhere (damp on the seats/mats from getting in with wet clothing for example) Is your car garaged or left outside?
If I use my car in the winter I put the system on recirc, full heat (inc seats and steering wheel) and aircon for the last mile or so to dry the air in the cabin as much as possible. Don't know if it does any good but you never know..

I have had a small amount of this misting so where abouts is the cabin micro filter that has been referred to on an E89

So i had something similar. If i press AC and put the heating on then select the defrost windows button it works a charm.

I just leave the climate control ON summer or winter (Not with the roof down) I just dial in the temperature - If I get in and the screen is misted, I use the screen de mist button.
Never had a problem.

Thank-you all for your replies, answered them all below.

I thought it was a silly question, but glad I asked now! Looks like i've been pressing the wrong button, so have something different to try next time, and if its no better, then look at the filter.

I think I have it on auto, but will check.

Allegedly about a year and a half ago when I had a full on service done. Who knows if they actually changed it though...

Mine is when the aircon is on full blast, and I have to stop until it clears (for some reason I'm too dumb to always do it before leaving the drive!)

Don't know, think I always use the max aircon button (2), will definitely check next time.

Left outside on drive. Tends to be when the outside is cold and moisture on outside of screen.

Not sure. Is it near the fusebox on the inside?

Going to try this. Aircon always on, but looks like I'm pressing the wrong button.

Yes, I leave climate control on all the time, usually have temp at 22 (both sides) but when I press the max aircon I normally whack the temp up as well. Will try leave the temp the same and pressing the de mist button instead.

The ac takes the moisture from the cabin regardless of wether you have it set to hot or cold, it sounds as though you just need to familiarise yourself a bit more with the settings

Rob

That’s a polite way of saying RTFM 😂

I know the ac dries the air, I was thinking a bit of heat would help but not allowing engine time to warm up.

I’ve just been out and now I’m not totally sure I was pressing the wrong button but that might just be me being confused.

I’ll see what happens next time.
