Windscreen Advice

I had a stone flick up yesterday and chip my window, it's also put a 10mm max split in the glass.
Can this be filled/repaired or is this a screen replacement job?

If the screen needs to be replaced, am I better to have or will I have a genuine BMW windscreen? Does it come with the rain sensor already fitted? Does this need to be coded?

And seals, should I demand a genuine BMW seal kit?

Thanks

Mark

You need oem bmw seals but an aftermarket windscreen will be fine. Mines a Pilkington one.

They will ask whether it has the rain sensor and tinted sunstrip.

If it's 10mm they may be able to fix it and it will be almost invisible - the guide is smaller than a 10p. £10 vs £75 vs £££ if you ask for an OEM screen. If you have to replace it then just insisting on OEM trim is enough, no need for a genuine screen. Just make sure they actually bring OEM trim before they start - it doesn't cost you more but they have to order it in generally, and they've forgotten it twice before with me :headbang:

check who your insurance does its screens with (if its national take lots of photos of how yours is now and then expect them to f**k it up) and go and see them.

if it cant be fixed i would get a new screen but insist on a bmw rubber surround. it is worth paying out yourself for this if they refuse or it creates a problem.

i paid for the surround myself as it was only 20 quid and it sped up the whole process but the screen place should get one they will prob just have to chase up your insurers to check its ok.

as for the sensors etc they all come with the new screen.

i would double check on a vin checker what screen you have as autoglass got the wrong one fist time around on my latest screen. the system they looked it up on said one thing but the vin said something else

Thanks guys, I'm going to pop down to Autoglass today to see if it can be repaired and go from there. I think because the glass is split where it's chipped this will no doubt mean a replacement.

Windscreen repaired :D It cost me £30 but I didn't go through insurance who would have charged me £25 anyway, plus I would of had to of declared the claim for 5 years.

The guy who did it was a little doubtful as the crack was deep but even he was impressed how good it came out, you can hardly see it.
