Windscreen Advice

The biggest stone hit my Zed the other day and split the windscreen so need a complete new replacement as its beyond repair!

I have called my Insurance Co who will arrange a replacement via Autoglass, however they use Pilkington glass so not original from BMW.

Would you be happy with Pilkington? Any experiences? They mentioned they could order a new replacement through BMW but will take a long time..

Pilkington is fine. I had an OEM BMW one replaced with a Pilkington one. Apart from it not being as strong, in my opinion, (chips everywhere now) it's a decent replacement.

Oh and I can't remember the name of the first company they used, but it was completely the wrong shape so wouldn't sit properly.

That was with auto windscreens though, who are a completely cowboy outfit.

BMW don't make windscreens.

There's not even one OEM. They'll be made by Pilkington, PPG, Sekurit, et al to a specific specification and stamped with the BMW logo - just like all the other BMW genuine/branded parts.

There's nothing to stop you asking BMW for a price and paying the difference between what you insurer is paying Autoglass.

Whichever way you go, make sure it's the correct screen (e.g. coupe vs roadster, tint, sun-band, auto-wiper pad, etc.) and examine it with the fitter to see that there are no scratches/chips - BEFORE it's fitted.
