Apparently, non OEM screens can play havoc with the rain sensor...

All booked in for next week, my insurance don't really want to deal with it (elephant/admiral). You organise it all yourself via Autoglass website, it's a doddle. I've attached my concerns in the notes but I'm also going to phone them today.
You also get a years warranty so if I'm not happy I won't be settling for it.

Got a crappy RAC windscreen is another car and annoys the hell out of me. If Pilkington are the OEM supplier then okay. If not then expensive little BMW logo windscreen it is! Least then I can guarantee some quality in it. Did you say you’ve had a few windscreens? Who have you used for your replacements?
Autoglass are going to attempt to fit a 4th windscreen on Monday, the three previous ones arrived with distortions! This fiasco has been going on since May 11th 
I keep insisting on an OEM BMW screen but the messages aren't getting through. I'm going though my insurance who only use Autoglass so I'm stuck with them. I will be writing a letter of complaint when they finally fit it!

I use my car everyday for the work commute, on a major road into London. The lorries absolutely kill my windscreens I've had auto windscreens (crap) and autoglass (really good) replace them.
Auto windscreens/RAC auto windscreens were dreadful and used cheap glass. It scratched and stonechipped really bad. I think it was a Paris Saint-gobain glass, or something like that.
The first time they fitted a new screen, it didn't have the tinted sunstrip across the top. They then tried to get out of removing and replacing it because apparently I had signed saying the work was done. Unfortunately for them, I had told them at the point of order that my existing glass had an OEM sunstrip, so they had to reluctantly replace it free of charge.
Autoglass use good quality windscreens and one even rejected the glass after getting it out of his van and said he will reorder another because it wasn't worth fitting.
So yeah, autoglass gets my vote everytime

On my most recent fitting, last month, the fitter said they've been having problems with Z4 windscreens. Apparently, there are 21 different combinations for our Zed's
He even said himself a lot get rejected and the curved glass makes it magnet for damage.Hope you get it sorted soon. Fortunately, mine was fine at the first attempt.

Thanks Ben, luck of the draw I guess - interesting to hear there's a general problem with Z4s, I was beginning to think I was doomed!
I'm getting (or should be) a new OEM screen fitted this coming Tuesday by Autoglass. I've asked for the OEM outer seal too. I couldn't quite convince the insurance company of a new scuttle unless the fitter damages the existing one...
My question is..... does the plastic trim on the inside need to be removed to fit the new one? That's the A-Pillar and screen top plastic where the visors and light is. If so I'd rather remove myself in advance as the first time I took it out it was a bit tricky. Now I'm familiar with the process I'd rather do it rather that risk the fitter damaging it..
