Hi all,
New to the forum as I have just bought my Z4, I think their is a slight problem with the drivers window, when I unlock the car and open the door sometimes the window winds right the way down and when I shut the door it goes back up, doesn't happen every time though? Anyone else had the same problem?

Thanks

Russ

Are you holding the unlock button on the key? Some cars are programmed to drop the windows if you hold the button. Otherwise there is a windows reset procedure on here somewhere...

The windows can have a "moment" now & again & has been mentioned on forum many times ,
1 kind member has a reset tutorial somewhere which i followed once & not had any problem since
Before any panic try
ignition on/car not running .
operate both windows together fully down . Then both fully up
Turn ignition off
Simple but effective if your fault is the usual out -of-syncness :)

Windows reset procedures here :

http://www.shipkiller.com/Window_Initialization_Procedures.html

Different methods work on different cars for some reason. I think 4 worked for me - hope this helps

As an aside, if you just go to shipkiller.com you will find LOADS of useful info for your car and it's foibles.

Looking forward to the intro and pics in the newbies section too :D

Does the e85/e86 drop its windows for easy access like the e89 perhaps? A double tap on the fob unlock button will enable this, and when you open the door, the window goes all the way down, close the door, and back up it goes. Its to allow easier access into the car when in tight spaces.

It is called Comfort Access - and yes, it is possible. Not sure if you double-tap the key or hold it down. If I hold mine down the hood opens, so I am guessing the former. Srhutch will know for sure, as he was going to programme mine but we ran out of time...

On my Z4, the driver's window had a habit of winding itself halfway down after retracting the roof. I tried a couple of reset procedures kindly given on this site, but they didn't work. In the end I mentioned it to the dealer who applied a software update and it's been fine since. So, if none of the other suggestions on here work, try the dealer when it's next in for a service.

Thanks guys for all the info, I have tried it with pressing the button once quickly, it seems fine, perhaps I hit the button twice?

I shall try and post a pic of the car in the newbie section....

Well thank you kind sir. 8)

RussellP, your car maybe programmed for convenience opening. When you unlock the car press the unlock button again and when you open the door the window will move all the way down. As soon as the door is closed the window will return to the closed position.

If the above is not as you are getting then I can only guess you are unlocking the car and continuing to press the unlock button which is starting the roof opening process or just windows depending on config and if it's a coupe or not.

Hi and welcome by the way, and don't forget the pictures :poke:
