Windows Going down and up

Hi,

When I open my car door the window goes down about 2cm and then back up when the door is closed. Is this normal and if so, what is the purpose of this?

Yes it's normal. It drops down so it sits lower than the roof/seal for opening & closing.

My worry though is that in the winter when the windows are iced up and they are stuck and won't go down, how will this mechanism work?

Apply some Gummi Pflege to the rubber seals which reduce any moisture from freezing the window to the seal.

Yes, this can happen. Keep a can of deicer in the boot. If yiu get locked out (windiws wont drop if iced up) give the frame a spray and wait 5 mins.
