Windows 8

Anyone else on Windows 8 yet?

I've just got a new touch screen laptop with Windows 8 and I reckon it's pretty good. Particularly with the touchscreen. It's great being able to zoom in and move around spreadsheets and the like with the touch screen. My only issue was Microsoft in their wisdom have got rid of the start button which I found to a right pain until I found a utility to put it back again. Now it's just about right.

Anyone else like it?

That start button utility could be a godsend to some. The whole thing is built around touch, without which it's getting lousy feedback. Watching people's reactions in store when the try to touch the screen and it doesn't work is illuminating.

Gesture recognition and voice is next...

Yup, got it on my laptop, once you get past the tiles bit which is basically for touch screen computers/tablets, it's not that different from winmo 7 really.
It does boot pretty quick but then my laptop has an ssd hardrive! :D

yep, use it on a standard thinkpad, just to keep up to date (bloody industry keeps updating, never ending exercise). Not convinced on how useful it is, spend more time trying to find shortcuts and work-arounds :x

Have it on my desktop at home and think it's just fine, mainly for the performance gains but I like the asthetics as well. I have an OCD for clean screens so a touchscreen PC will never be on my list of things to purchase :)

Considering I work for what is supposed to be a forward thinking global IT company, it's disappointing the number of conversations I have at work that go along the lines of "Windows 8? Why did you install that, it's crap" - "Have you tried it?" - "No, I read a review".

Anything that sticks it to Apple In adore :P

Not many Windows Phone 8 out yet though. Their Surface Pro tablet 's not out yet either but I can't wait!

some users are upgrading to this in our office

cant say im impressed as a couple of issues already such as desktop background issues and ms outlook not bring able to run a search function since the upgrade

im sure it will be great once everyone has touch screen pcs but that wont be for a good few years yet

ive got it on my microsoft surface.its nice having the two worlds. entertainment centre when you turn it on and then a "time to do some work" icon in the corner. not sure it would work in the office as the live tile updates pull me away every 5 min.

i guess when companies get there teeth into it and set the tiles they want you to use, it will make everything move quicker

I think it's great, i had windows 7 on my dell adamo and upgraded to 8 for £24, well worth the money. Saying that i will getting rid of it and buying an xps 13 as an xmas prezzy to myself! :D :D

if you dont have a touch screen i dont see the point.

Few people at work have upgraded, and no real benefit.... boots faster, but seems to run slower (and the booting faster was prob only due to the laptops being rebuilt)
