Bad time of day as all of EU and most of the US will be online now downloading. Sure MS will be running flat out

My 8mb line only took a couple of hours

Mine took about an hour from starting the download to being ready to use - but I did do it at 7am - and am on a 100mbps+ line :fuelfire:
 
Just download the iso from the ms site if the windows update is taking too long.... Use winrar free or similar to extract it and then run the exe... Which offers upgrade or clean install.... Far easier than relying on a flaky windows update.... 2.5gb on a 20meg line will take 10 mins or so!!
 
I installed it last night no problem but now I keep getting this message.


There was a problem starting

C:\PROGRA~1\COMMON~1\System\SysMenu.dll

The specified module could not be found



Any one have a clue what it means??
 
Prior to the fresh install of Windows 10.0 changed the BIOS settings from Legacy to UEFI.

Turn on and get to the password screen in 6 - 7 seconds. Enter the password and another 2 seconds to the desktop.

Quite fast!
 
After a transition period of trying to forget windows, I am an Apple convert and can't see me going back!
 
when windows first came out i would not install it on pc'd cos i thought it was rubbish and i thought it would not take off :roll:

that must have been 30 years a go

I run both, as the small differences created when using the Mac & Windows versions of the same app.

Windows mainly for Microsoft stuff, Mac mainly for Adobe/Quark.

I only use Mac hardware - an 8 year old MacPro, a 3 year old iMac tor travelling, and a new 5K iMac to replace the MacPro that I'm retiring.

All have both Mac & Windows OSes on them in some form. The MacPro & 5K iMac run Windows through both Bootcamp and VMWare Fusion, but run OSX Yosemite about 75% of the time. The 21" iMac runs Windows 7 99% of the time.
 
I've kept a laptop and a notebook for legacy data and for tweaking my smarttop module in situ .

The Mac is more acceptable now I can copy my iTunes and use it from a usb in the zed!
 
Couple of things I've noticed
I seem to have lost the scroll feature off the mouse pad
The install has removed my Kaspersky antivirus - (it was free with my internet banking) apparently it isn't compatible yet - checking that out
 
I guess the fact that it and all future upgrades are free is compelling
I also believe it is time limited, so if you don't upgrade it will cost you later

It's very good on the desktop and I quite like it - without aero it's a little less visually appealing than Windows 7. On my tablet though it's a retrograde step compared to Win 8.1.
Would I pay for it, probably not, but as it's free...
 
It's been a long hard journey but some 26 hours after setting out I finally have windows 10 working on my desktop.

The media tool download finished some time in the middle of the night, then this morning I thought it prudent to do a full backup before committing myself, that took a few hours.

Anyhow, it's up and running and the initial impression is good.

By who? If you have a genuine version of Windows 7 or 8.1 then you can upgrade for free. Are you still on Vista :fuelfire:
 
Got it all downloaded now-(it was on screen I had to buy a new gadget tho?)-my favourites are not now listed as before(first impression)-thanks
