I have been thinking about tinting the rear and side glass, but does anyone know if its illegal to have any tint to he passenger and driver side windows ?

My fronts are actually around 50% , allegedly

That said, I only drive in the dry, usually in summer and the windows are always down.

Thanks for that info Tom.

No probs. I think OEM front windows and windscreen already have slight tint, I’ve no idea of the figure though.

Any tint on the fronts always seems to have an exaggerated appearance, with the e85/86 at least due to having such a small cockpit/big rear bulkhead not letting much light in anyway.

I looked at doing this, don't think its worth touching the sides, if/when I do i will just do the rear window.

I think it works well on the E86 in the right colour :poke: Maybe not so on an E85. E89 though ?

The rears are OEM ... they look silly dark here :?

How strange this topic should come up, I was looking at my E89 yesterday thinking it could benefit from a window tint, but just the rear window and rear side windows to kind of replicate the look above on the E86 coupes.

My only concern is it would look a little daft with the roof down and rear windows up. Really struggle to find pictures of anyone who has done that on an E89, even in the US.

Exactly this. I have thought about tinting the windows many times (the sun down here can be very harsh), but with the roof down and the windows up (can't convince the wife that windows should be down if the roof's down... ), tinted windows do look a bit strange and don't seem to suit a convertible.

Good thinking, didn't consider that.

Here's an example of an E89 with tinted windows. https://e89.zpost.com/forums/showthread.php?t=952789

But not one photo of roof down/windows up, as this is what the OP is now concerned about, I believe?

I’m sure OP can use their imagination. There’s enough shots there to give a good idea of what different tint set ups will look like.

And there’s no need to be snarky. I’m just trying to share something helpful.

What's your point?
That the link didn't show the car with windows up and roof down (unless I missed one?).

I found these - hope they help.

^ See that looks terrible doesn't it.

I'm thinking of just doing the small rear side windows though, not the fronts. So I'd just need to remember to put them down if the roof is down, they make very little difference anyway.
