Got to work today and pulled up to the car park. Put the window down to swipe my car park pass and the window went down (made a noise like a snap or pop) and the window went up again and won’t go back down !!! :o . The motor still making a noise so I don’t think its that.
Spoke to the dealer I brought it from (Stratstone) as I have a warranty with the car and he seems to think it’s the regulator and guess what that’s not covered by the warranty, what a surprise  . He is phoning me with a price tomorrow morning.
I was wondering if he is right or if you guys have any other problems that it might be , also anyone had this problem and no the costs?
Cheers.

Bad news if not covered by warranty. Solution suggested sounds correct so probably a cable snapped sounds correct. Count on some £120 for the regulator and then an hours labour to fit it at say another £120, Add Vat

Have a read of this thread:

Thanks for the info m8, £240 + vat ouch :( . Not a great start to life with the Z. that will put the 108s refurb on hold for a month. :headbang:

Yup, same issue here, EXACTLY the same... I need to get mine fixed too, think just over £200 at an independent last time I checked.

Yet another *all too* common fault!

Incedentally, does anyone know what causes it, coz me and my friend took the door apart the month before and checked everything and it all looked fine. I had previously heard that knackered bushes on the mechanism could cause it, but they looked fine.

I had the same thing as well happen to me right before winter. I stopped by my BMW dealer and not only did they replace the regulator that broke but the other side was making noise so they replaced that one as well. If you still have the factory warranty it is included.I did not pay one penny to get them both replaced.

It says in the warranty under electrical systems(relating to the windows), electric switches, window and sun roof motors are covered. and no they did not explain just said it was not covered.

£200 looks a little better, which independent was that, woundered if anyone had used these guyshttp://www.bmservicing.com/ was thinking about using them.

It was Cramag (www.cramag.com) in Yeadon, near Leeds. Can't remember the exact price, but worth giving them a call

I bought a the part from the dealer 3 weeks ago and it was £120 exactly.
1 hour labour a BMW at £110 an hour for Stratstone. I used my mates garage and he charged £40 to fit it, not a hard job if you can find a decent independant garage. If I had the time and weather was better I'd have done it myself

iirc, the regulator is just a slot the window sits in. 325Cis had that problem too. Before mine went, the service adviser took apart the door and tightened the screws up. Never had a problem. The motor is a different part.

My dealer (stratstone) gave me my quote this morning, £266 inc VAT. So if the part is £120, £146 labour !!! And this is off the guy who sold the car to me a few months ago and said he would “sort it out for me and would take the piss”.
Needless to say I declined there offer  .
Looks like i will be off looking for a good independent garage.

Just had the window fixed, a friend of a friend did it for me. £146 for the job and he fix the hand break as it was a little high and on top of that he fix this scratch on the front bumper that I did last week  oops. Result !!!
