Window Reset

Hi, have been looking through many forums and have tried to rest the windows but to no avial, even had to the dealer who are scratching their heads.

Both windows wont return to full after door is closed. They will manualy return once in the car, any ideas? :headbang:

Have you tried all the resets?
There are a few but this one has always sworked for me:

Sit in the car, doors and roof closed.
On the drivers door switch, press and hold the drivers window switch until the window is fully down.
Then press and release the switch four times within 10 seconds.
Select and hold until fully up.
Then lift and release the switch four times within ten seconds.

Still using the drivers door switches, repeat the process on the passenger window.

Hopefully that'll work.

Tried resets but not this one, will give it a shout and report back
Fingers crossed then.
Usually happens after the battery has been disconnected for a while.

So, before trying the rest i noticed the windows are now closing properly when the door is closed i.e. it now does the last lift into place when the door is closed. However noticed that when putting the windows up or down they go in segments and I no longer have the one button down or up function. Tried the recoemmended reset but nothing changed. They do now seal so think i will live with the gremlin it has decided to come up with! Cheeky wee z4, i love ya :-)

That’s interesting! I’ve had the same issue and still don’t have the one touch up. Does work down. Even after reset and a reprogramming with Carly, no dice… any ideas would be appreciated

The procedure posted almost matches what BMW shows. As far as I know there are two procedures, and even though I can't find any solid proof, I think it has to do with facelift vs pre-facelift.

OP seems to have a face lift, so this is what I pulled from the BMW docs for that:

Initialization is performed on the power window switch of the relevant door.

Requirements for correct initialization:

Initialization with engine running
Convertible top, doors and windows closed

Note the two requirements in bold :)
Next:

Erasure of initialization:

  • Open door window glass fully
  • Operate power window switch in ”Open” position four times within 10 seconds
This erases initialization of the power window, anti-trapping protection and toll function are inactive.

Check whether one-touch control (toll) function is inactive, otherwise repeat procedure.

Reinitialization:
Avoid a break between the two steps!

  • Open door window glass fully
  • Operate and hold power window switch in ”Close” position (second switch stage)
  • Once the upper end position has been reached, hold power window switch in "Close" position for approx. 2 seconds longer

  • Open door window glass fully
  • Operate and hold power window switch in ”Close” position (second switch stage)
  • Once the upper end position has been reached, hold power window switch in "Close" position for approx. 2 seconds longer

This completes initialization.

No idea if it helps, but easy to give it a go! :D

OP, if your only remaining gremlin is a missing one touch open/close, this might help. Mine has, since new, lost the one touch up and one touch down each time I’ve had the battery disconnected. The reset procedure for this is easy; Roof and door closed, power on. Press driver’s window switch down until window fully open and keep pressing until a faint click is heard (within a second or so), immediately pull switch until fully closed and click, repaeat a second cycle. Repeat for passenger window.

I had this after I disconnected the battery to change the starter motor, the roof would occasionally beep when operating and the windows not work properly. But after a few up, down roof and window cycles it cured itself.
