Window Regulator - Insured Warranty

Hi all

Last week the driver side window on my coupe packed up (just when I was trying to get a ticket for a parking barrier :headbang: )

I think the motor is still ok as it was still working as I heard crunches and grinds, I managed to manually handle the window to a permanent top position so its at least weather tight. The motor tries to operate when the button is pressed but nothing happens, when I open the door it no longer drops by 5mm so I assume the cable is either broken or jammed.

I have the fully comp warranty. Phoned my local dealers (who have normally been ok), immediately they started reeling off £65 diagnostic fees and wear and tear clauses and were suggesting it may not be covered. I was annoyed so gave them a bit of a blast back, quoting the exclusions on the policy and the fact that my vehicle had less than 100K miles. Car is now booked in but not for 4 weeks! due to courtesy car availability.

Has anyone here had successful claims for the window regulators on warranty? Just got me a little concerned that they immediately spout of get out clauses, it could well be just a new person who is reading a script but it does not set a great tone before they have even checked the car.

Regards

I've had both my regulators replaced under warranty, one a couple of months ago, the other mid-last year. No mention what so ever of it being a problem under warranty cover. Exactly the same happened, failure, followed by jammed window and grinding noises.

my warrenty wasnt threw a main dealer, but they changed the motor and paid for fitting, but wouldnt pay for the regulator.

Oh and they wouldnt include the new door seal

Weirdly they wouldn't pay for the membrane on mine either. Well the second time, having just thought, it was a freebie the first time :-s

ye but i know when i once claimed for a new engine due to water damage , they refused to pay for the air filter lol.

think its one of them things certain companies class as wear n tear item

Yes I wasn't fussed , but asked out of interest. The warranty company apparently states if the job is done correctly and carefully, the membrane shouldn't get damaged.

Id agree with that if i was doing work at home, as you'd spend allot more time.

But for a garage, say charged 60 quid a hour the cost of a membranes 25 quid.

The old butyl where it has stuck is a pain to get off too.

Cheers guys.

I was going to ask them to ensure that the butyl strip was renewed, not sure what their work shop instruction will say on that subject.

If they refuse to cover the butyl I'll have a bit of a moan seeing as the only reason it's being compromised is due to a component failure.. We will see, still got a few weeks until it's booked in.
