Window regulator - how to?

Not having much luck! After the roof motor seemingly failing last week now it's the windows!
Drivers side window was slow going up and down - then today it wouldn't go fully up - after an attempt to reset as shown on these forums there was a loud clunk from the mechanism and now the window ceased to work - have got it back up but not quite as fully as it was before. I think the roof cover will be on tonight!

From what I have read this looks like the window regulator? Could be an expensive month for me!

Is there a how to on replacing the window regulator?

do a search for window regulator or window cable on here and you will find loads of threads. There is an external how to for a different car but similar process

Yeah I've read the threads - seemed there was a how to at one point as it was being sent via email - wondered if it still existed as assume it was z4 specific.

New regulator £115 from sopers - so a saving made over the local stealer.

Will see how difficult it is when it turns up!
 
Please could you do a How To as I am in the same bucket!!

That link looks easy enough to replace the whole lot but I am worried about whether there is any adjustments etc that need to be made and how does the Z4 know to auto roll down the windows when the roof goes up.

My indy quotes a worst case of 1.75hrs labour (could be less) plus £136 inc vat for the regulator. This works out at £267 plus the 1 hour it takes me to travel each way to the indy. As I have the door and trim off their fix time should be significantly shorter but without having any way to guarantee that discount I would be tempted to do a DIY. I just need to buy some cable ties and spray on lithium grease.
 
Save yourself £21 and order the part from Sopers.

I will see how it goes when I try fit it - not the most mechanical so hopefully it's not too difficult using some of the threads I have read on here.

Assume someone must have a link to the TIS for BMW's 'how to'.
 
IMO, from experience if you are not confident (not saying you are!) it may be worth getting it done by a mechanic. I have had a devil of a job getting the window adjusted correctly afterwards in terms of restoring the vertical dimension to deal with wind noise.
 
Did the fitting go well J4YMO? It looks (or sounds) like my one went today so this could be my job for the weekend :(
 
Yeah it went ok - bit of a pain getting it all aligned back in the door and the window seated correctly. Took about 2 hours start to finish.
