Window regulator help

Hi all,

I had the cable snap on my drivers side the other week. After some forum research (and a call to the dealer which ended in me laughing and hanging up!), I bought a repair kit and fitted it uneventfully. Problem is, since then my drivers window doesnt drop properly when you open the door. I can hear the motor, and it seems to move slightly, but not enough, and definitely not as much as the passenger side does. When I go to shut the door, the window will sit on the outside of the seal. I can push the window down slightly while the door is open and then it raises up as normal once shut.

Is this a repair kit issue? Have I missed something with re-assembly?
I've tried all sorts - using springs from the original regulator etc with no joy.
I haven't tried the alignment screws yet - not sure they will make any difference though.

I've got this same problem. It only dropped a small amount on the original regulator so I took it out and fitted a repair kit (which I had to modify slightly as it was waaaay too tight) and it's still exactly the same.

I *think* the problem is the pulley wheels which I noticed had some play in them. I think they've worn on their pivots. I regret not drilling out the rivets and doing a rebuild but I didn't want to end up without glass for days.

Don't bother with the adjustment screws, it's not those. Oddly enough the reason I got into all this was that the window would catch on the hard top because, as it seemed to me, it wasn't dropping far enough. I got into the habit of shoving it down a bit whenever I opened the door.

Turned out that someone had played with the adjusters (one was at its full extent which is unlikely to ever be a good position) and it was this causing the hit. I did much fiddling about to adjust it back which also cured a poor window seal over my shoulder and excessive flexing of the glass when the door was shut.

With experience of this, i can tell you the repair kit is virtually impossible to do. Some folk on here have managed it though. I bought 2 of them and after hours i gave up.

I in the end, bought a new regulator, they are not that expensive, less than £100 now. It takes less than an hour to fit. This was 3 years ago and has worked perfectly ever since.

With experience of this, i can tell you the repair kit is virtually impossible to do.

After a lot of fighting I got the kit on but the force on everything was immense. For the record, I shortened one of the outer sleeves by stages (ending up at about 8mm IIRC) to reduce the tension.

I was starting to suspect it was a repair kit issue to be honest - maybe a slightly different cable length or tension or something like that. The dealer wanted over £300 for a new one!
