had a good flick thropugh the pages and see the regulators are prone to causing problems. Have an issue that is likely to be a regulator, but the current stuation is confusing me ( not difficult)

I've had regultors go before and normally the glass dissapears into the door...

I was leaving a car park yesterday and dropped the drivers glass to pay.... as the glass got to the bottom of its travel thre was a loud clunk from the bottom of the door and then the window raised itself... !!! The window won't drop but if i press the switch there is slight movement and i can hear a pretty unhealthy noise inside... normally i would say it all points to the regulator... but if so how com the window raised itself and is stuck "up".... is there a fail safe built in ( if so well done BMW as i was able to get home from leeds to Sandhurst without getting wet and cold)..

Don't want to fork out for a new regulator if not needed....

I know this is a very old post but i've just got the exact same thing happen on mine.

what is it? any idea's? is it deffo the regulator or is it the clips? i've still got a noise when i press the button and i can see the window twitch (move) but it's stuck up after hearing a bang then the window raised itself!

Had kinda the same problem but with mine the cable on the regulator snapped, opened up the door panel and hey presto snapped cable. Put in a think bit of wood to stop the window dropping down. Got it booked into bmw to be repaired.

but it's locked in the "up" position already, there was a bang then the window was automatically sent up and locked, like a fail safe.

I guess i'll have to remove the door card to find out for sure :/

Just taking apart my drivers door at the moment to sell.

PM me if you need a regulator as this one was working perfectly and wont be asking ebay prices for it either.

Good luck...I removed it last night and was a bit of a mare.....and that was on a breaker that I didn't really care about.

Lots of bolts to undo and maneuvering.

Its a secondhand regulator with cable !
