Window auto up not working. New regulator time?

Hi!

I have searvhed most pf the topics that discuss this and have not found a definitive answer. As in the topic, the auto up with both windows is not working. I do have codes for both sides, please see below.

I have tried all the powsible resetting procedures, re-learning and whatnot with no success. The latest was this one

So the situation is that the auto down works flawlessly, auto up not. The curious (?) thing is that the windows do not ho up when using the first position on the switch, they do go up in the auto up position but I have to hold it, otherwise they stop inmediately. Same happens when using the drivers and passengers window switch. Is the only solution to get new window regulators?

Thanks for reading

I suspect it is more likely to be the GM5 module. But the only way to test that is to slave in another one.

After I had the battery out for the gaptech installation, I had to go through this. I tried all resets until I found the one that finally worked.

Z4 window reset -

Passenger window should be in closed (up) position.
Hold down to open window and wait for 10 seconds once at bottom.
Pull up to close window and wait 10 seconds once at top.
Repeat once more.

I have exactly the same issue with the coupe

I tried a new gm5 and it changed nothing

I doubt that a new regulator will change much?

I did try a new switch as well which made no difference

Which reset method did you use? I tried the three known ones, and none worked except for the one I posted above.

I also had to do it on the passenger window, not the driver window. The 10 seconds was the key part as the usual 3 seconds did nothing.

These did NOT work:

1) Open the window and push the open button 4 more times
2) Close the window, but don't let go of the switch when it gets to the top for at least 2 seconds
3) Open it again, but let go of the button when it gets to the bottom
4) Close the window, but don't let go of the switch when it gets to the top for at least 2 seconds

IIRC, after the window gets to the top and you're holding the button for 2 seconds, a relay clicks. Then you know it's done.

Initialization is performed on the power window switch of the relevant door.
Requirements for correct initialization:
• Initialization with engine running
• Convertible top, doors and windows closed

Initialization comprises:
• Erasure of initialization
• Reinitialization

An initialization must be performed:
• In the event of malfunctions, e.g. no one-touch control function, no opening or if available no comfort function is possible
• After the power window drive has been replaced
• After work is carried out on the power window mechanism
• After a power supply interruption, e.g. disconnection of the battery or disconnection of the power supply to the door
• After the door window glass has been removed and installed or replaced
• After adjustment work on the door window glass
• After adjustment work on the convertible top
• After replacement of seals

Erasure of initialization:
• Open door window glass fully
• Operate power window switch in "Open" position four times within 10 seconds

This erases initialization of the power window, anti-trapping protection and toll function are inactive.
Check whether one-touch control (toll) function is inactive, otherwise repeat procedure.

Reinitialization:
Avoid a break between the two steps!
• Open door window glass fully
• Operate and hold power window switch in "Close" position (second switch stage)
• Once the upper end position has been reached, hold power window switch in "Close" position for approx. 2 seconds longer
• Open door window glass fully
• Operate and hold power window switch in "Close" position (second switch stage)
• Once the upper end position has been reached, hold power window switch in "Close" position for approx. 2 seconds longer

Cheers, will give this method a go later and report

Unfortunately it did not work. Most probably will take the window regulator out when installing some sound deadening, maybe I’ll see something obvious (probably not) before starting to replace parts.

Just a further check for you (and I cannot remember if you have an E85 or E86....):
Lower the roof, then raise it. When you raise it make sure the doors are closed. Once the roof is up then keep holding the button and the windows should wind up. If there is an issue with the anti-trap then they should stop and go back down again.

When the doors are open the one-touch close doesn't work. Maybe the issue is that the windows think the door is open?

I should have written in the first message that I have an e86. Good point about the about the door being ”open”. That might have something to do with the lock in that case?
