Window and clutch problem!

Hi everyone, i'm a newbie here on the forum. Sorry my first post is a "problem" post 8)
Ive had my Z4 3.0si coupe for a few months now and really enjoying it!
My car is a 2007 with 27000 miles on the clock, when i first bought it i noticed that there was a rattling noise from the clutch. After a bit of research here i discovered it could be due to the light weight dual mass flywheel. I mentioned it to the dealer i bought it from and they offered to check it out. I got the car back a week later and they had replaced a "spring" in the gearbox somewhere with no success, so they replaced the clutch and flywheel. Since then i have noticed that the noise is slightly worse and the gear selection is a fair bit more notchy!
The second problem that i have is that when both my windows are fully down and i close one and the other window straight away, the first window i close, closes with no problem but the second window goes 3/4 of the way up and then opens fully again. I tried the fix listed on here (ignition on, window down, hold for 5 seconds and close window) but the problem has got worse. There now seems to be a delay before i can close the window after opening it and a delay to open it after i have closed it :thumbsdown: .

Sorry to hear that. I had the clutch/flywheel rattle (quite typical here) and a flywheel replacement fixed it completely. The flywheel springs were responsible for the vibrations that resonated in the gearbox.

It's strange, a because the replacement requires gearbox removal - if there was something wrong with e.g. the gearbox input shaft or the gearbox mounts, they would've noticed... There is little more that could be responsible for the noise.

A few have had similar window issues, I don't think there was any resolution other than operate one window at a time. I've not heard of any need for a delay though. My theory (which doesn't explain any sort of delay) was that the entrapment safety mechanism works off increased current to the motor should a body part become trapped in the closing window. The extra current draw from operating two windows simultaneously somehow triggers the safety mechanism and opens the window. Not that that makes it OK, whether it's by design or defect, it's still a fail.

For some reason my car seem's to have rectified the problem overnight window's now work perfectly!
