Wind Screen Question?

It works GREAT and is by far the nicest looking one

I saw a very positive review of it somewhere last week. I think it was bimmerforums but can't find it! I wanted to buy one last year but it's too expensive for my blood
I bought the factory one that you linked from roadster solutions mainly as I wanted to drive top down when it was a little more chilly. It works great, reduces the wing blowing through the cabin (especially if you put the windows up) which cuts down on noise. It still makes a girls long hair go crazy though....or maybe that was just my driving :roll: . Bottom line, I love it. I thought about taking it out for the summer....but as hot as it gets here I'll pretty much be top up anyways except at night and even then the top may stay up mid summer. 95 or so degrees at night is still hot. I'll agree it is pricey, but I had not the know how to go cut/fabricate my own materials. Installation was a cinch. Even if your not that mechanically inclined if I dare say so.

Although brand names are different by continent what material did you use? What fixing did you use between the clear 'plexiglas' and the presumably OEM roll bar channels? I've the OEM mesh clip in version, so this is a do-able conversion.
Thanks so much everyone! I will probably buy the prefab one as I too do not have the tools or materiels to fabricate one myself. I just wanted to see what everyone thought. As I mentioned, I have the mesh one but I don't think it does a great job. I'm new to this forum and the Z4, great to have someone to bounce ideas off.

I used three pieces of 1/4" x 1/2" aluminum channel, bonded them to the hoop covers and at the bottom with 3M body side moulding double sided tape.cj10jeeper said:Kurts05Z4 said:I already made mine.

At the bottom I drilled a single hole through the plexiglas and have a screw through the channel to secure it. I have had it to some rather high speeds (130+) with the top down and it hasn't moved a bit.
The plexiglas (clear acrylic sheet) is 3/16" thick. I used it because of the ease of fabrication, low cost, and availability (Home Depot). It is fairly easy to scratch so the next one will be made out of Lexan ( an acrylic that's less prone to scratching but a little more expensive).
I made the pieces for inside the roll bar hoops too but decided to take them out because there's actually less cross wind with them out than in. The center piece alone seems to work the best.
I'll get some more pics today and post back with closer images.

A few more shots.
The vertical channels needed to be shaped (arched) a bit to conform to the shape of the hoop covers.
I placed felt where it rests in the channels.
The pieces for inside the hoops were a bit trickier due to the angle of the hoops compared to the deck.
It required a considerable amount of "massaging" the aluminum channel to achieve the proper angles to keep the glass aligned correctly with the hoops.

I ordered one today. I'll report back whne I get it installed. I tried to go without the net today, around 47 deg. up in the mountains. The ride was quieter but was getting a lot of wind around our heads and I could feel a draft right over the steering wheel, hands were getting pretty cold. Stopped and put the net back on, still had some air coming through, but the draft over my hands and around my feet quieted down. The net does introduce some wind noise but does reduce buffeting. I'm hoping that the solution from Roadster Solutions works better....
