Wind Deflector

Hi

Thinking about purchasing a Z4 early next year. Hopefully the UK weather in 2009 will make getting a Z4 seem worthwhile! Have done my research into models, colours, options etc and am certain on the spec I would like. Just a quick question, even when a wind deflector is fitted does it block out wind noise completely or does it still get fairly blusterly in the cabin. The girlfriend is what you would call a 'little pathetic' about getting her hair blown about and ive assured her that with a wind deflector at crusing speeds when the roof is down it should be fine.

Owners who have got the wind deflector fitted could you let me know your opinions please. I assume having the roof down but the windows up could make a difference.

Many Thanks

It really helps but do not count that it will stop completely the wind.

Without the wind deflector my wife's hair were blown above 40 Km/h. Now this happens at 70 Km/h, windows up.

But the feeling that she has with open roof is :D :D :D .

I made one myself and it works very well. You will never find a woman who is more protective of her hair than my wife. Without the wind deflector she would not even ride with me with the top down. Now with the wind deflector her hair is not messed up much and with the windows up, it is not too bad. It is well worth the expense and effort to get one, but I still would build one. I have seen the OEM ones and my homemade one and really there is not that much difference at least the OEM one is not $200.00 better. :)

Did you want an opinion on the deflector or your girlfriend? :D Lol.

Yes, it's pretty good. With the roof down I usually leave the windows up unless it's really hot (as far as I can remember, that is :( ) It's easy to remove if you wish though.

Why not get out and try a few now while there's some half decent weather left?

I have the BMW mesh deflector and the wind still comes through from behind, between the seats.

I have to tie my hair back or it gets mega tangled. I'm going to try and buy the Roadster solutions clear deflector - hopefully it works better, but definitely will look better.

I have the more expensive Roadster Solutions/Bavarain Auto model.

See this thread. http://www.z4-forum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=6240&st=0&sk=t&sd=a

I've ordered one from Roadster Solutions a couple of weeks ago,, did'nt like the OE one at all, no doubt by the time customs finally release it we'll be in the depths of winter and the hardtop will be back on :x ...although there will be plenty of opportunity to test it out I reackon as we don't seem to have proper winter's anymore :P

I had the clip-on deflector that stores in the boot when not in use, TBH it used to make a fair bit of difference, it's still not perfect though, even with the side windows up. You need to feel the wind in the hair a bit, otherwise you might as well be sat in a coupe.

If you do go for a test drive, make sure to put the seat on it's lowest setting.

I have mine from roadster solutions. Now that the summer is semi over and it's getting cooler my rear window is completely removed. It might go back in come late November due to the chill weather. It's sitting nice an snug in the trunk.

I never take mine off. Built it so that the top just comes up over it, no problem. Would not like to have to take it off and on. :?

I have the Roadster Solutions one. Had the mesh but didn't like the look. My wife liked the mesh best for hair blowing (don't have much myself). I do notice more air blowing down my right arm (the center of the car), I think the Roadster Solutions one might be better if it was a bit shorter so it doesn't catch the wind so much. It is quiter than the mesh, IMO. Botton line is I like it better, my wife not so much... :?
