Wind Deflector

So my recent Z4 purchase did not come with a wind deflector. Its pretty blustery without one.

So the OEM ones for a piece of mesh are overpriced to be fair. There are a couple of aftermarket alternatives kicking around but they differ, from just blanking off the space between the rollover hoops and actually blanking off the space between the hoops as well. Does having the hoop space blocked make a difference?

The stock diffuser is in 3 pieces..one piece set into each head rollover trim and a central piece..

I've not tried without the head restraint parts fitted..but can't imagine they do much compared to the central part..

When I bought my E85 in July this year it also didn't come with a original deflector either.
I also was amazed at the price of them second hand, so I bought one of these https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/226179808640 It's ok but then I managed to find (two weeks ago) a original one at a bargain price so I snapped it up. It is better than the eBay one, but the eBay one is much better than nothing.
I'm willing to sell for £20 uk post inc if you want it.

Had both the original with the 3 pieces and just the central piece. Can’t honestly say I noticed any difference. Absolutely nothing compared to not having one at all.

The single piece (perspex ones) don’t seem to have great feedback re buffering and noise.

Yes im guessing the OEM ones are mesh for a reason. Namely buffering

Yup they stop buffeting..not sure how good they are at buffering..

I've just bought a genuine BMW one for mine. It hasn't arrived yet, but I see from images, that part of the frame has to bolt through the rollover trim. My trim doesn't have holes in it currently. Does anyone know if the wind deflector comes with new rollover trim with the bolt holes cut out?

The wind deflector clips into place on brackets that are screwed to the roll over hoops. If the deflector doesn't come with brackets you will need them also.
Holes can be drilled in the plastic roll over hoops to gain access to the threaded holes in the metal roll over hoops that are under the plastic ones that the brackets screw onto.

Thanks Nic, should be easy enough to sort then.

As long as the deflector comes with the brackets.
I think the plastic hoops are marked on the inside where the holes need to be made but the clips holding the plastic hoops on are quite easily broken so maybe best not to remove them. Someone may be able to give you measurements where the holes need to be and they could possibly be drilled in situ.

Mine came off pretty easily with nothing broken.

Hope this helps

I don’t have the deflector but have noticed quite a difference between having the windows up or down. Much reduced buffeting with them up and it doesn’t really feel any less open-top.
