Wind Deflector

Don't forget we are talking about second gen Z4 here. I don't think it could go under the boot lid because there wouldn't be room with the roof folded!

I leave mine in place all the time. It is clear and does not restrict the view in my opinion. I seldom look through the rear window anyway as I use my side mirrors for that. Even at low speed the deflector satisfies my wife’s requirement of not having her hair messed. :) As for me, no hair to worry about but it does make driving with the top down much better even on hot days as the air conditioning stays inside the cabin area a little more.

I left the deflector up (when I had a Z3, now I'm looking for a Z4) I leave the assembly in my M3 all the time unless I need to put someone in the back. I don't really look behind me at night and I can definitely see lights through it. (Flashing or otherwise)

If you drive a Z (or an M) you shouldn't be worried about what's behind you, that's why you drive one.

I fold mine in half, stuff it in the bag and it fits flat behind the passenger seat behind the mini luggage net

I have a bag in the boot too - but on first inspection it looked way too narrow for the wind deflector. I also have straps on the floor, wondered what they were for!! WInd deflector is currently off and stashed behind the passenger seat!!

I believe the narrow bag is for a pair of skis. It protects your interior from using the pass thru to carry a pair of skis.

You'll find a clear one is perhaps better looking, but actually defeats the object of the mesh. BMW very carefully designed it to slow the wind speed down. With rigid perspex it will cause the air to roll over the screen and create turbulence inside the cabin..

Glad you said this, was beginning to wonder if I was going mad. The clear perspex versions at roadstersolutions look like they would be a great buy but surely a solid lump of perspex is going to be a bad thing????

Hi all, quick question, sunny Bournemouth roof down and feel the need for a deflector! So, does that from the previous model fit the new one, a few going on ebay.

Thanks all!

I have long thin bag for it which fits nicely behind front seats on wee shelf behind TBH ive just left it in place. Can it come off with roof in place?? Looks as if it folds in half then pushes up and out?

Got one a couple of weeks ago and have left it fitted. It's the mesh type and as I comute everyday up and doen the country iit only took me a litle time t get used to it. I found it stopped van lights blinding you when sitting in a que of traffic.

And as I make sure I'm overtaking everyone I don't need to use my rear view :P

Points of reference.

1. BMW OEM Wind Deflector folds in half (lengthwise) when removed.
2. It can then be stored in the bag that is provided specifically for it.
3. That bag can, in turn, be stowed conveniently behind the seats on the width-wise tray.
4. When in place it does restrict rear vision because it is a black mesh.
5. How much that affects the driver is down to personal preference.
