Am I right in saying that if you don't order the comfort pack or wind deflector from factor order as an option you cannot retro-fit?

You can, but not easily as you need to order new surrounds for the head loops.

This looks good, but it may have a problem. The OE deflector gets surprisingly dirty but, because of its design & materials, doesn't show it. A solid version may will get just as dirty and show it a lot.

I had a Wind Deflector fitted by BMW. It wasn’t cheap, but it certainly makes a difference.

Not much help to the OP, but I just looked back at the order form for my factory built G29. The salesman advised including the wind deflector as I didn't want the comfort pack and the cost of including it at the pre build stage was £170.

I'm looking into retro fit of wind deflector.

There's useful post on another forum and it suggest you can do it with 3 parts only:

So, this trim rollover protection bar fronts, where wind deflector slots in, are these black plastic parts on the interior side or silver ones on exterior side? Because I'm not entirely sure looking at the schematics. Problem is, I have black shadow covers on exterior side and looks like these parts might be more expensive than silver ones.

I think that the wind deflector is a necessity on the Z4 G29 and the Dealers should be advising new build customers who don’t order the Comfort Pack to order the stand alone wind deflector from the factory. Extra cost was £170.00 when I ordered mine, but I did order the Comfort Pack. :driving:

BMW are cheapskates as far as equipment levels go.

My wife drives a Seat Ibiza FR which costs about £18,000 and has Adaptive Headlights as standard yet we have to pay an additional £900 for them

Maybe 16000 for the car and 2000 for the headlights I think the quality of how they work is also worth something.


The hoops are easy to remove yourself, I think you can do it yourself in half an hour and order the parts online, that should save you at least 2-3hours in BMW billed workhours at the dealership.

I ordered parts yesterday, they will be ready for collection tomorrow. Have to check if I have screwdriver Torx T15.

You think the options list is bad on bmw? You should see the Porsche one. Packs don’t exist and the car comes bare bones!

I collected three parts mentioned earlier:

51 46 7459683 Trim rollover protection bar front left - £26.25 + VAT
51 46 7459684 Trim rollover protection bar front right - £26.25 + VAT
54 34 9481141 Wind Deflector - £193.34 + VAT

Total cost with VAT £295.01, £125 more than ordering Wind deflector from factory. It was stock car, so had no chance to spec this option. I hope it makes a difference, but I won't know until next week or later. I may come up with some replacement parts to cover the wholes in the hoops, if necessary. OEM parts £110 each.

Swapping headrests took 5 minutes each, so total work 10-12 minutes. If you can use screw driver, it's not worth paying BMW to do it.
