If you want to bring math into it

top down x (feeling the wind) / cost - fact you bought a roadster instead of a hard top = :driving:

I thought the idea was to feel the elements, be one with nature and all that hehe. Else we'd all have bought peugeot with a sunroof ? :poke:

I ain't voted as I'm E85. But definitely vote for them.

Any time I take the hardtop off during winter and forget to put the wind deflector in place it's far more noisy and windy. Can't hear stereo as well as normal, and Mrs Adamski's hair goes everywhere....

Def makes difference in my e85.

70mph top down without mine and i get battered by wind, with it in place can have a conversation again!

I find that it makes a difference really only at high speed. Pottering around I hardly notice any difference off or on, in fact I prefer it off at normal speeds as it makes the cabin feel less enclosed. However, get on with 50+ speeds and you can tell that there's much less buffeting around your head and neck, and, in colder weather, this does make a difference. The cost is debatable.

I never specced it, going to buy the aftermarket justroadster version , not to everyones taste with the clear straps but i like it

Slightly off topic question, sorry.

If you park somewhere and the weather is nice, do you leave the roof down, or put it up to fully secure the car? I'm thinking, if you leave the roof down, with the wind deflector in place, could some toe-rag nick it?

i'd be more concerened about bird shitting inside it

That is another concern. What are the chances of getting splatted, even when driving?

You take your chances driving... But if I am leaving the car for any more than 5 mins the roof goes up. Given the behaviour of a minority of society you could find anything tossed in the car when you get back, 'just for a laff'.

Doesnt it invalidate your insurance if you leave your top down as technically your leaving the car unsecured?

good point, wouldnt put it pass someone to ping a ciggie onto your leather

Interesting - never thought of this. I don't think so, as the car is suitably alarmed, but perhaps you don't get cover for internal vandalism... Which would be a fault claim anyway. I have to renew my insurance today, so I shall ask the question and report back !

The Z4 will be our 6th convertible. I just about never park a car outside with the top down. Vandalism aside, its a good way to ruin the interior.

Cheers for the replies everyone :) looks like I definitely need one then :D

Regarding leaving the top down and insurance, I tend to put it up on the Z3 if I leave it anywhere for any length of time. I would check with your insurers but I know some won't cover if you leave the top down and the car is stolen.

Talking of wind deflectors, has anyone retro fitted the one that clips into the middle of the hoops, I.e. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/160735355424?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649#ht_855wt_922

thats for an e85 but i think it is possible, led to belive you need to buy everthing including new hoops :poke:

I often leave the car parked with the roof down, but perhaps only in a decent area, and not somewhere I think might cause an issue.....but only in sunny weather, and if it's warm....

You can get the BMW wind deflector for an e89 as a retrofit kit. It is in the accessory brochure.

Part Number 54 34 7 200 808 MSRP is £274.00 Fitting required and not included in price.

The kit includes the deflector, screens for inside the rollover bars and the hardware.

You also need new rollover bar covers. (just the back side covers) 51 43 9 128 411 and 51 43 9 128 412

I found the instructions. Looks easy to do.
