Wind Deflector Options

I don't really fancy trying to break open the trims and I'm not that keen on the gimp or the Velcro strapped options either, so what else is out there?

I did find a thread on here that linked to an American site (can't find it again now though!). This had a nice set up that used adhesive grooved channels to support a Perspex sheet. Reasonable price as well, at least in the USA. Worked out about £150, but it was the £30 import tax and the £60 shipping costs that finally ruled it out for me. I've been looking for something similar from a UK supplier, but had no luck so far.

Any other options I'm missing?
 
Try 'Just Roadsters' - they do a Perspex option which I used on my 2 litre and which I've just sold to a forum member. It retails at about £140-150 and fits in front of the hoops. It's held in place by nylon transparent straps which use Velcro to fix around the hoops and hold the Perspex in place. They come with or without a black rubber trim around the edge. I found that the nylon straps tended to expand in heat and that the Perspex sometimes rattled against the plastic of the hoops when this happened so I rang the company and they sent me fabric straps (much stronger and not prone to expansion) and a length of their rubber trim which I super glued in place as per their instructions (very helpful company). The fabric straps were black but I thought they looked ok on the car hoops.

The positives for the Perspex wind deflector was that it did not obscure the rear view (the OEM is made of a fabric which darkens the view) - is hardly noticeable and is cheaper than the OEM option. It's also far easier to fit than the OEM option

Negatives are the fact that a slight vacuum is created by the solid nature of the Perspex and it can create a vortex which channels a draught between the seats at higher speeds - much less draught than without however! The fabric straps can be seen attached to the hoops as they are black (though you can go for the clear nylon if you find this an issue).

If you go for this option go for the rubber edging trim (which the company fit and is an option) and ask for fabric straps. I also used adhesive felt round patches (slightly smaller than a 10p piece) on the Perspex where it laid against the hoops to avoid any rattles, this and the rubber edge trim made for an excellent fit.

All in all an effective alternative to fitting an OEM version, much cheaper and easier to fit with just the negative of particular vortices caused at particular speeds which effect the centre of the cabin. We lived with this as the wind deflector is effective.

Here's the best photos I have which shows it fitted to our 2 litre with both types of straps. Hope this info helps. (The only reason I sold it on is that my new Zed had an OEM one fitted)

What's the difference between the 'Just Roadsters' screen and the ones on FleaBay for £40? Must admit the clear/white straps look okay actually.

I might be able to judge it better if I had a closer front view (especially if the Blonde is still in the car... :P :P :P )

I have a nice Perspex one with black edging and clear straps. Can take some pics if you're interested. Where are you craigdm?

I got hold of an OEM one, just the middle piece. Bought a fitting kit for £20 or similar. No removal of trim necessary, I just tapped some tiny holes with a drill and used shorter self tapping screws than supplied. Worked perfectly and took me half hour or so all in all.
 
I'm in Lytham, lancashire.... must add that to my profile. On the look out for someone local who might be able to set my three flash for the indicators.

The OEM mod sounds interesting... any more details?

I got one of these from Just Roadsters and its very good. Picked it up from the company and they are very helpfull, even helped me fit it whilst I was there and took away the packaging :D
