Wind deflector not good?

Owned my zed for over a year now. It came with the factory wind deflector.

I can't help thinking that there is something wrong though as it doesn't reduce the wind buffeting by much at all.
Previously had a Z3 with wind deflector and it worked amazingly well so expected this to be the same.

Have just finished 1700 miles around Europe and at some points was uncomfortable to the point if putting roof up

How tall are you? I didn't think they were that good either, but I notice the difference if I take it out.

My daughters really notice if it's not in place though, hence the height question.

I'm 5' 10" and use the leather/mesh BMW deflector. I've noticed an improvement. I have found that with the deflector on and the side windows up. It stays fairly calm.
With the side windows down, Deflector on. It can still be a bit windy but not so turbulent as with out the deflector. It seems to reroute the wind as opposed to stopping it. Whereas with out the deflector. There would be a very strong draft on the back of your neck.

I found it quite effective......Side windows had to be up though..

I used to get a breeze around my left arm and hand for some reason, apart from that though it was good.

I find the wind deflector works fine, its not perfect, having the roll bar inserts may make it more effective. Im thinking of making some blanking plates in to see if it improves.

Best result would be achieved (especially for those long trips) with the wind deflector (any OEM one), deflectors in the roll bars and the side covers! The latter one reduce drag in the side openings of the soft top... Oh yes: windows up off course :-)

Considering air can lift many tons of aircraft off the ground, am surprised anyone complains about a little bit of buffeting in a convertible.

Makes me ask the question are we hairdressers or enthusiasts?

What do you mean by side covers Bad Pritt?

I have a perspex wind deflector which seems to channel air down the centre of the cockpit (like a vacuum cleaner effect) and also down the sides of the cockpit - side covers?

Let me know and thanks

I think the perspex deflectors cause more buffering than the mesh as the mesh is designed to let a certain amount of air through and smooth the airflow

See this thread - there are some pictures of the side covers on page 2

Thanks for all the replies.

I am just 5ft 4, but with long flowing hair! Maybe I should cut it short for the benefit of top down driving.

I have just checked and I have definitley got the official BMW mesh deflector including mesh inserts for behind headrests.

Windows are up.

I will invest in a good hat :(

:D I don't like anything to be between me and my view, not glass, mesh, or perspex. On a pleasant day, I actually enjoy the gentle unobstructed buffeting. Unless it's cold, people driving a 'vert with the windows up look like... uh, I better stop before I dig myself in any deeper.

I mean these:

I was meaning to ask this question. I can't tell the difference having it in or not.
I was thinking of filling the mesh with thin plastic and seeing if a solid barrier is better than the mesh.

Side covers - got it now...can they stay in place or do they need to be removed when roof is up?

Where are these available from - anyone have ideas of price?

Let me know and thanks. :driving:
