Wind Deflector - Mesh???

Hello All

My wind deflector turned up today from my dealer and I have a question about the mesh. Why is it made of mesh and fold-able and not just have it made of clear perspex and make it a permanent part? I am think of cutting out the mesh and making a piece of perspex to fit in the whole, is there any issue with doing this?

Many thanks
MIke

Because. ;)

I personally like the mesh as it allows some wind through while allowing me to collapse it to put away in winter and put it back on in summer. I wouldn't want a solid panel of perspex as it scratches and also wobbles about in the wind because it doesn't allow wind through it, putting strain on the mounts.

Given the price of the thing, cutting it apart seems a bit 'eek'.

Probably also reflections at night from oncoming traffic. Noticed this when I made a Perspex wind stop for the MG.
Unless it's angled down significantly it can be made to reduce glare.
As said scratches easy, and if too thick perhaps danger if someone knocked over and goes flying over the top, could be a bit of a guillotine.
The mesh is frangible.

100% +1

The mesh also acts as an anti glare device from knobends behind you with their fog lights / poorly adjusted lights

The main reason mine is a permanent fixture tbh :)

I had the clear deflector on mine and was very pleased with but also as it looks less obtrusive. The OEM mesh deflector to me looks pretty ugly and a ripp off price wise.

The perspex ones are solidly made and don't wobble and find they're better when using the rear view mirror. I have the mesh type on the Z3 and find its a pain at times for visibility. With the perspex type you can easily remove it as it just slides out of the brackets. Also mine didn't scratch unless I cleaned it with a brillo pad :)

Just purchased the smoked one from Wind Restrictor out of Texas,USA
Doesn't help you folks in the UK and beyond

I bought a perspex one, and it wasn't too bad, but not brilliant ( fitted with velcro). I decided to go down the 'original route', and bought the oem one and the inserts for the roll bar covers...Far better, and looks better too in my opinion

I did look at the hartage. Glass deflector but way too expensive !!!

Thanks. Glass is the only way to go. I had a plexiglass windscreen on my Corvette ragtop and the windscreen would scratch with a hard stare.
