Hi had a couple of cigarette burn holes in my mesh due to a careless previous owner.
Bought some new mesh off Ebay last week and been putting off fitting it just in case it all went wrong.
Well I bit the bullet today and pulled the rubber retaining strip off
Should of done it last week, very easy to do, and only took about 15mins start to finish and looks great.
So if you have a wind deflector that's looking a bit shabby crack on and have a go, simple DIY repair.
EDIT i realise that i should of inc a bit more info so here goes.
Mesh I got seems to have ended but Ebay item 151642501479 is going to be pretty much the same just a smaller piece.
To remove your damaged mesh prise out the rubber strip (it seems to come out of the top corners easier first)
Half way down the sides is a metal clip ensure you take this off the rubber and put back in the channel in the correct place as it seems to push against the sprung metal on the outer of the frame.
Remove the old mesh from the rubber strip (it just pulls off, no glue)
Place your new mesh over the frame and start to push the rubber strip back into the channel. I started from the top edge first, as the rubber goes back in keep the mesh taught (you may find it easier to enlist some help at this point, as this was the trickiest bit on your own)
Work your way down both sides keeping it tight and end up with your two ends of the strip meeting at the middle bottom.
Then take a sharp Stanley blade and work your way around the edge of the rubber strip to trim off the excess mesh, if you tuck the blade under the outside edge of the rubber as you cut it loses the raw edge of the mesh under the strip.
Finally work your way around the rubber pushing it into the frame so it seats right in and your done.
Sorry if I've rambled a bit but it is really easy to do and smartens up an otherwise tatty deflector.
