Wind Deflector Dimensions

Hi there,

I'm a new Z4 owner and so far am loving the car, I've decided that I need to get a wind deflector and as my brother in law is a glazer have thought I can get a permanent glass deflector made up for the car, just wondering if anyone has the dimensions for a wind deflector that I can pass on to him.

Weclcome to the Forum - sorry but no dimensions maybe someone could do a measurement for you but would need to know how you are going to fit it. Personally I would try and get a second hand one or buy a new OEM. Not sure about have a large piece of glass between the headrests - would certainly need to be laminated and toughened. The OEM and aftermarket version, being plastic or similar allow for a certain amount of inevitable flex which can occur between the headrests I think glass would be too rigid and could crack.....

+1 on that.....I can't see it being a good idea at all to be honest.

And what dimensions are you looking for anyway? Surely if you own the car you just need to decide how you are going to mount it (the proper item has a fitting kit that needs to be fixed to the rollbars) and measure accordingly...??

Hey no problem with ideas! Have you thought about using perspex or something like that (there is a US kit made of that?)....its just you might get a shock with the price of the fitted OEM item. :thumbsup:
 
Have been trawling through a lot of sites and have found a few that are no where near the cost of a genuine BMW supplied deflector. The idea of the glass one came from seeing an article wrote by an American who use perspex. And the idea was to used toughed or laminated glass. Have a feeling I need to look through a few more sites to see what I can find in terms of costs.

Still quite a price though considering the perspex sheet would probably cost around £15.00-20.00 and you could probably make it yourself fairly easily?

I tormented myself over this issue for months! In the end I decided to bite the bullet and order the OEM retrofit kit from Joe at Sopers for £310. A lot of cash I know, but it does not look like a DIY job and my many previous experiences of trying to do things on the cheap have tought me that it is nearly always better to go down the propper road 8)
 
Make a tinted perspex one,

but be prepared for a lot of tut-tutting from the purists on here,
I just ignore them now,.... and drive round in blissfull comfort. :driving: :rofl:

:rofl: Yours is one of the better ones, but it still looks a little out of place to me. I never use mine anyway.
