Wind Deflector appreciate advice with fitting brackets

I too have just bought a second hand deflector, must be something in the air :) BMW original and would appreciate some help please.
I have the central deflector (part 1) and am about to buy the deflector holders and torx bolts (Parts 3,4 and 5) https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/BMW-Genu...205419&hash=item2a53b39010:g:YLYAAOSwXAJYWARD
The instructions don't seem very clear on fitting the side brackets for the deflector to slide into, they just say secure the brackets with 20mm torx bolts. Does anyone know if there is a template or measurement, and do I need to pre drill holes? It just seems a bit flimsey if the bolts only go into the siver surrounds (as pic below) I would have thought that they screwed into the metal which I assume is encased by the plastic front and rear surrounds..
Guidance would be appreciated please, I have tried to work it out by looking on forum and web, but can't see a clear answer.
Thanks in advance
Clive

Hi Clive

Welcome to the forum

There is a guide on here to show how to drill the holes in the plastic roll hoops with pictures somewhere, I was lucky and managed to buy some pre drilled plastic hoop covers on this forum but it was quite difficult to prize the old ones off without breaking the clips so if you try this use plastic tools to gently pull apart, once off you will see the screw holes in the black plastic covering the roll hoop and then you can mark and drill the silver covers before fixing them back on, the clips can then be screwed on and the wind stop will slot in.

Hope this helps :) Steve

Thanks for your reply Steve.
It sounds from what you say that the roll hoops already have the fixing holes for the brackets pre drilled into them, so it's a case of lining up where to drill the hole through the plastic hoop covers to insert and screw in the fixing bolts. If that is the case I was hoping for a template or measurement so that I could drill through the plastic hoop covers in situ rather than trying to prise them off without breaking them. (Cos I am sure I will break them :( . There's a reason my wife has put a sign up in my garage saying "danger men at work"!)
As the drilled hole in the cover will be covered by the fixing bracket it wouldn't matter if it was a couple of mm out of alignment because it will be covered by the bracket, giving a chance for me to make the hole a bit larger if required.
I would rather do that than break the plastic hoop covers trying to remove them, but don't know whether anyone has tried this.
I will try more advanced searches to find the guide, but in the meantime any other advice would also be appreciated.
Many thanks.

Brilliant, thanks very much Steve.
I have spent some time trying to search on the forum but certainly didn't find this thread, obviosly didn't have the right key-words.
I think this will do the job nicely, I'll let you know how I get on.
I'll order the brackets now, so will probably be a week or so, but meantime thanks very much.

I've found the original thread now Steve thanks to your help. Looks like it is exactly what I need and going to be massively helpful.
Another member EVM also recently bought a second hand deflector so I will PM him as I expect he too might find this very useful too.
Thanks also to Russ 59 and other contributors to the original post.
