Wind defector for an E89 without the hoop covers

Hello all. I have a 2012 35is that had the hoop covers removed by a previous owner, leaving only the roll bars. I'm curious about getting a wind deflector but I don't really see any pictures of one installed without the hoop covers installed. Has anyone done this and, if so, how?

I'm thinking that I can just get a piece of 3/16" or 1/4" polycarbonate that is a bit taller than the hoops and wider than the outside to outside width of the roll bars. If I lean it against the bars, I can trace the perimeter with a sharpie or grease pencil then just cut it out and make some slots for loops of velcro to secure it around the bars. Us curious how others have done this or if it is even worth the trouble. The wind doesn't bother me by my wife complains on the highway.

Thanks.

I don't think it's worth the trouble - Personally, I'd replace the hoop covers. Ebay around $60 give or take? Same with the deflector. The original mesh ones are the best. Quite a few people say perspex/polycarbonate copies cause a bit of buffering.
If you do replace with the original covers, you'll need to make sure you get the two x plastic brackets that house the deflector.
