Willy Wavers Moffat meet., a charitable event?

"Willy waving",malc z4......hardly!!
Just based on the fact that having been fortunate enough to drive alot of interesting cars in my life, thus far,i base my opinion on the 6 cylinders being more interesting to drive, and more in tune with the market/ethos of what the z4 is about, being a 2 seater sportscar, from BMW.
While there is nothing wrong with the 4 cylnders, for me,economy and lower running costs were not why i bought my z4.....just pure driving pleasure :D

  Loving this

I echo what craig says, also add that having that bit extra under the bonnet gets me to the legal speed limit alot quicker which is also very handy when a Rover 75 is in your way :poke: :poke:

Back on topic, Kinda agree with what a11y says reference the route
course if I had 4 pot I could probably afford to do a few more miles, wouldn't be as much fun though doing it all in a 4 pot rather than most of it in a 6 pot :P

Yeah, suppose your right, I mean if All you want out of a car is for it to go no faster than 70mph and dont care how long it takes you get to the speed limit then you may as well buy a Trabant, well any thing else is just "willy waving". so I suppose we are all willy wavers then, and it is nice to have bigger one to wave than you. :P
Now stop hijacking the thread to air your size envy

Nothing wrong with willy waving. Unfortunately the GMC frown upon it!

Any idea about rough dates Richard? I'm trying to sort out annual leave for the next few months so just so I can get an idea.

Sorry not at the moment. As was said at the start, the thread was started mainly to guage interest and then take it from there.
The main problem is I have no idea where I am going next or for how long, though a conversation I had today broached the idea of a former soviet republic.
So quite honestly as stated at the begining this may not happen for some time.
That said though I did get the chance today to try out a road that's possibly going to be part of the route, and it was good
So you will just have to watch this space.

No worries. If it's not going to be for a while that should be cool. I know where I'll be as of August so getting weekends off, etc. shouldn't be as much of a big deal as it is the now!

Had a few minutes to spare so got the old atlas out, had a look at what could be a possible route for the meet when it happens.
It is a little bit further than some of the suggestions at just over 200 miles and 4 1/2 hours driving, however this route is not set in stone and merely offered as a start point for further discussion, some of the way points are purely to give an indication of the route and not necessarily anything of great interest.
I have tried to incorperate all the different aspects/scenery of the area from the lochs above Moffat to the open moorland/agriculture around Thornhill stretching into the Galloway Forest and finally the Galloway coast before heading back to Moffat into a whistle stop tour, including Ice cream at Cream of Galloway (this may be your first time of trying it but I promise it won't be your last).
Please let me know what you think.

Map doesn't work for me :(
PM sent
It was just my bloody crap internet connection at home: I can see the map link fine here from work

Looks good, is quite far for a day but as you say if we want to take in the best roads then that;s what we need to do :)

Agreed, Might look to make this an overnighter in a B&B or something, and drive home in the morning. :driving: :driving:

Could be an idea, make a weekend of it...

Ok so of the feedback was as expected the route is maybe a bit too long, so had a look at dropping the less interesting bits out and it now looks like this

It's dropped about 25 miles to 180 miles and an alleged half hour of driving time from the original proposal.

As for dates it is possible we could clash with the National meet, not sure how many people are planning on attending that or I think we are looking at the end of the season, the latest date being the end of October or we miss out on the Ice Cream and I want Ice Cream :D

Suggestions, ideas or are we all to busy musing over Skye and thinking about what is to come on Islay.

I might not be able to make it if it's the weekend of the National meet as Kirsty and I are driving down to Milton Keynes on the Saturday to see the Foo Fighters on the Sunday. If the worst comes to the worst, we could maybe try and join the meet for half the trip then carry on down south.

That looks a nicer distance for a day's drive. My personal preference re timing would be having this as a year-ender after Islay, but that's just me being selfish so feel free to chuck that idea out of the window (or dropped roof). All this driving is bloody expensive, but it's worth it. I couldn't make july due to hols and would be pushing it to fit it in August before Islay being the start of Sept, personally...

Personally I was happy enough with the first route, but also for me the timing of this would need to fit in with the finances, so it will be a case of being able to confirm once dates had been set, August, september october no good for me. :( :(

2nd attempt at this reply so apologies if it duplicates

I'm happy with either version of RichardG's route but appreciate it's way closer to us than some - we've had a blast or 2 down some of these roads in last year or so - around Wanlockhead where there's a decent coffee shop at the litle museum and some interesting landscapes along the mennock pass etc. Some pics;

Menmock Pass is one of my favourites for a Sunday morning though i prefer it from the A76 end Leadhills. I also had a look at the map route, the bit between B and c from the A78 to the A701 past Talla is a hell of a road. Really narrow with no passing places at some of the very narrow bits. It is awkward enough on a Motor bike and no fun in a car IMHO. That said i might bring the V1LAN out to play as this is my end of the world.
