Will this gadget work?

REVIEW
Just tried the CD Slot Mount in my Z and it does not sit in the CD slot enough to get a firm hold, rending the whole thing useless. DO NOT BUY this for your Zed
Fortunately its fits the wifes C3 so it wasn't a complete waste of money :)

I got one for my 62 plate 1 series coupe and it fits in the slot but as Chris said, not all of the way in. Tried it in the Zed and it fits the same. My old man bought it for me from the gadget show so I have not tried it while I am driving. I guess it will depend on how "enthusiastically" you are driving so see if it will stay in the slot!!!! :driving:

Well I have ordered the Mountek one to see if that is any better. Couldn't find a UK supplier, so have ordered for the USA, but will post some details up once it arrives.

All the best,

Dan

Hi Guys
Have just found this Rubber Satnav Dashboard mount on Amazon, buy one get one free, so one can be for the Z3 and the other in the 4.
Will let you know how good they are, but the reviews are excellent.
If they are good, will put new thread on about them.

How did you get on?...I bought one from Ebay and it just doesn't grip my Zeds upper dash area, just gradually slides off. I also found my suction mount will not stick to the same area, sure seems slippery.

The Mountek one arrived yesterday. It fits the BMW business CD headunit in my E85 very tightly (no chance it will be going anywhere!). I have yet to fit anything onto it, as I already have a mount for one device.

The plan is to remove the multi-phone mount from the front, and fit a brodit base so that I can use brodit device specific holders. I don't really like those one-size-fits-all adaptors.

One advantage is that you can fit it either way up so you can have most of the buttons freely accessible, and the device in front of the vents, as opposed to hanging down in front of the headunit.

Quick update for anyone who might be interested...

I took the phone holder off the front of the Mountek... cut away the semi-sphere underneath... attached a Brodit mount base (best mounts available in my humble opinion) with both Gorilla glue and the supplied screws... and the end result looks a little something like this:

Without anything in it, I couldn't pull it out, and even with a Nexus 7 attached, it's going nowhere.

Longer term, I want to gut an OE screen and fit a tablet in there.. but this will do for now.

I would imagine how much it blocks the radio buttons might be annoying for some (would be less obtrusive with a smaller device, of course) - but for me, this works. I can do most things from the mfsw anyway.
