Will taking off Velcro hurt my front bumber

I got a stupid fix it ticket here where I live in Southern California for no front license plate. It's a $82 fine if I do nothing or a $10 fine if I correct it.
My idea is to just use some Velcro and attach it temporarily on the front then take it immediately off after the ticket is signed off.
I want to spend as little money as possible since I am not keeping the front plate on. I have owned the car for over 6 years and this is the first time this has happened. My car was parked at a meter parking when I received the ticket.
 
There is an under bumper mount bracket that I have seen from other US members, which means it can be removed without touching the bumper.

Then use velcro or double sided sticky stape :)

If you dont want to hurt your bumper - then you going to have to spend some $$$ on the under mount kit
If you want to take a risk - try velcro

maybe use zip ties through the bottom front grill instead?

I have a really nasty feeling if you use velcro it could damage the paint coatings. At least if you use zip ties then you just cut them off when you don't need the plate and that means if you gotta drive it you know its gonna stay on if zip tied...
 
Double sided sticky tape is going to look less "temporary" than velcro. Just use enough so it doesn't fall off.

I had to get some double sided stick of my front bumper (the person before used some really thick spongy stuff to hold the plate on). It was a PITA to do but with enough patients it came of. I used some quick detail to help remove the sticky. The paint look fine after the sticky tape was removed, any marks in the lacquer could probably have been removed with a DA polisher.

Of course being in the UK you must have a plate on the front so it went back on again. I used much thinner double sided sticky tape so it looks a lot nicer.
 
The tape Richard is talking about is what the Z4 badge on the rear of the car is held on with easy to remove an no marks its what my rear plate has been held on with for nearly two years you could try this but the front is not a flat surface the ties through the lower grill may be best as suggested
 
I like the zip ties idea. All I have to do is drive to the police department, show them the plate is attached and then drive around the corner and cut it off.
 
I like my license plate bracket that screws into the front tow hook. :D

No holes in my Aero bumper, easy to remove, I like the offset "I think this rule is stupid" look it has, and it's one less thing to draw unwanted attention to my car.
 
i've used velcro before on two cars and taken it back off, it works well. I had it so i could take the plates off during cleaning.
 
Only an idea but my old man drives an 84 Corvette. He has mounted his front plate below the front bumper on a pair of swinging brackets. This allows him to push the plate up and out of view when showing the car and pull it down when driving (though he often "forgets" to lower it !!!!!).

Obviously, a UK plate is obviously a lot narrower than a US plate (the one he has is the smallest permitted by UK law) but it is effective and looks a lot cleaner. Im thinking about doing this to mine (though not sure if the Z4 has a lower front bumper ground clearance than a Vette?). Will post some pics if it is possible and when I have 5 mins to install.
 
Car gets knicked so you ring the local police, 'What's the number of your car sir?' So you give them the number so they can circulate it to all their patrols and automatic number plate readers in the chance that they can recover your pride and joy. Oh..... but you have taken the number plate of because it looks better! Just a thought.........! :headbang:
