Will Pay For Removing Mileage Tamper Light. In Midlands.

There was someone who broke their LCM previously, think they had to utilise a second hand one to get things working again. You could ask them for their help? Don't recall details but have a search :)

I know for certain they've changed their LCM, not sure the tamper light played a part in the story, but obviously programming a LCM is the hard part (isn't as simple as coding/carly).

That was me probably. I broke my LCM whilst retrofitting a MFSW. I bought a secondhand one which I duly fitted & everything worked as it should but the tamper light was on due to the milage not matching up. I ended up taking it to my local BMW indy that specialises in coding who sorted the tamper light. He ended up keeping the car longer than expected & said it wasn't as straightforward as he'd first thought. Here's the link https://z4-forum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=122365&start=30

Thanks for that.

Having read the thread, worst case scenario is travelling up to Heanor in Derbyshire, which isn't that far from me (Shropshire).

I mean it's not exactly next door but it's an excuse for a drive I suppose!

Much appreciated..

Paul.

Maybe I need to get over to Heanor too...
It seemed I had a faulty LCM - unless it's a coding issue, though attempts were made to fix it without success... front indicators lit up with engine on, running-light style, but only one bulb on each side.
Couldn't get this coded out (any suggestions?) So swapped with a new (used) LCM. This sorted the running lights issue fine, but left me with a tamper dot.
Swap the original LCM back in and at least the dot disapears but the indicators still light up of course. My thinking was that if I sell the car at least I can evidence that the tamper dot is not due to any 'funny business'.

Yes - new LCM required.
Yes - you will get mileage tamper dot.
Yes - LCM can be coded.

The PAsoft above looks like a good guide. ISTA can do it also.

I'm kinda thinking the same. If the tamper light doesn't irritate me too much i might just leave it until i'm in Derbyshire then pop in to see BMWMAN. Even if i didn't do that, if i keep the old LCM and the lights anyone who bought the car would be able to refit them and see that it's just the new LCM that's causing the tamper light rather than any clocking jibber jabber.

Plus i'm not planning to sell anytime soon. After just putting about £2,500 into getting her ship shape again there's no way i'd sell at the current value, which probably isn't much more than £5k.

Just a heads up that the mileage in the original will not be aligned with the mileage in other car modules, so even the original module will cause a tamper dot if the values are anything more than 100km or 60 miles different

My understanding is that a used LCM module can be reprogrammed, but you have to match both the VIN and the mileage for the tamper dot to be removed

I’ll be testing the theory soon when I do this LCM module swap on mine

Yep, both mileage & VIN need to be coded. Exactly what I had to have done.

Can confirm that Bmwizard in Oswestry has managed to fit the lights with no milage tamper dot.

Pretty sure he used the method already shown in this thread.

So it can be done.

Have you tried it out yet? As I'm now shortly looking to sell my zed, I thought I'd swap over the LCM and see if the tamper dot went away. Bearing in mind that I've done quite a few miles with the replacement LCM fitted - not sure how many, but comfortably in excess of 1000 miles - the tamper dot duly vanished with the original LCM fitted. But of course, my original sidelights issue returned too.

The mileage isn’t probably a thing, there are lots of parts which log mileage, but not sure they actually flag anywhere. Think the only thing it checks is the vin number.

Redundant data storage (RDA)
The kilometer reading/mileage and the data of the SIA service interval indicator are stored
redundantly in the following control units: instrument cluster, LSZ light switch center and
EWS electronic immobilizer. The above-mentioned data are thus retained when the control
units are replaced.

I suppose we could test it by just flashing the VIN, maybe it would use a voting system to overwrite?
