Will Pay For Removing Mileage Tamper Light. In Midlands.

Hi,

I've changed my front lights from Xenon to Halogen. I know it's a downgrade in terms of light quality but i never drive my Z4 (e85) in the dark as she's really just a sunny day car and my old lights were knackered. Found some nice looking new halogens on eBay but the garage have said i need a different Light Control Module (which he says he can source) but that it will likely mean i'll have a mileage tamper light appear on the dash. :headbang:

Anyone know how i can remove this? Mechanic says there's software that can do it but he doesn't have it.

Is it Carly?

If anyone can help in the Midlands (i'm in Shropshire but can travel) i don't mind dipping my hand in my pocket for your time. Let me know what you'd charge and i'll get back to you.

Not sure if this should be in the wanted section. Sorry mods if i've posted in the wrong place it's just i'm not 100% sure what it actually is i 'want'!

If anyone can tell me exactly what i'm looking for i can move the post over to the buy and sell section.

Many thanks.

Paul

I've not heard of LCM changes on cars of these vintage causing any mileage tamper dots to appear, but not tried it myself.

So, have you already done this LCM swap and you got a tamper dot you need removing, or are you asking for someone to code it to stop it appearing in advance of doing the LCM change (if that's even possible)?

Basically the car is in the garage and he's ordered the second hand halogen light module so as yet i don't know if it's caused a problem but from reading into this further i think it might, although i'd be happy to be wrong!

As far as i can tell i need this - https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B008RHJTS2/ref=cm_sw_r_u_apa_glt_fabc_BECHZG00EWRYFXTAMG06

Also (and this is the big problem) i need a laptop running Windows XP. Otherwise i'd just buy the unit and do it myself but god only knows where i'd find a XP laptop. Maybe eBay i guess.

I've also found these instructions so if anyone reads this in the future they can skip having to trawl through the internet like i've been doing all day.

Cheers.

Yeah you'll get the tamper light on the dash. The backup rom for the Kms/mileage is in the light control module.

I wonder if it really is that simple to change it, as if it was prob a lot more of that crap would be going on in the sales community.

Let us know how you get on pls.

I have an XP laptop (which I keep for old diagnostic stuff that requires it) and live in the west midlands if that is helpful?

After going to all that trouble, will aligning the mileage on the new LCM even remove the tamper dot?

I dunno but if the mechanic isn't sure and neither am i, i might just leave it. It's a 15+ year old car and although a tamper dot isn't ideal i doubt it'll make a huge difference to it's value once explained and i'm not planning on selling any time soon anyway.

I might just wait until someone PMs me saying "chuck me £20 and i'll sort it for you" which could happen any time over the next few years as far as i'm concerned.

What was actually wrong with the lights?

They're just old. I know i could buff them up but having removed the side indicators and replaced for clears the amber hockey sticks just makes the car look a bit dated (just my opinion).

Basically i just fancied a new look, the light were fine really.

I use BMW Scanner 1.4 on a Windows 7 laptop, works with BMW INPA as well

Do you actually need a new LCM? I know that they are different on the xenon cars, but I though it was just the lack of levelling wheel as they have auto-levelling?

I'm no expert mate but from everything i've been told and have read the xenon module simply doesn't work with halogen lights full stop, so you need an entirely different LCM.

You might be right but i certainly wouldn't know and am just going by what i've been told.

OP, have you fitted new BMW OEM halogen headlamps or aftermarket ones such Sonar 2Xcite ?

They're the after market ones by 2xcite. I realise they're not as good quality but i can't even remember the last time i switched the lights on in the Z4 as i simply don't drive it unless it's in the sunshine, so performance really isn't a factor. it's simply about aesthetics.

https://www.2xcite.co.uk/product/bmw-z4-e84-e85-2003-2008-chrome-projector-led-halo-angel-eye-headlights-e-mark/

If you look on the advert it even says - NOT SUITABLE FOR CARS WITH OE FACTORY FITTED XENON HEADLIGHTS - but i failed to read that before i bought them so i guess i've only myself to blame! :headbang:

There was someone who broke their LCM previously, think they had to utilise a second hand one to get things working again. You could ask them for their help? Don't recall details but have a search :)

I know for certain they've changed their LCM, not sure the tamper light played a part in the story, but obviously programming a LCM is the hard part (isn't as simple as coding/carly).

I asked the question as I have had Sonar lights on my Z4 for the last 6 years without any major issues. They occasionally mist up in certain weather and ambient temps but soon clear. In my opinion the quality is almost as good as OEM and they certainly aren't any less dim !
However, yes it does say not compatible with OEM Xenon. Hope you get it sorted

That was me probably. I broke my LCM whilst retrofitting a MFSW. I bought a secondhand one which I duly fitted & everything worked as it should but the tamper light was on due to the milage not matching up. I ended up taking it to my local BMW indy that specialises in coding who sorted the tamper light. He ended up keeping the car longer than expected & said it wasn't as straightforward as he'd first thought. Here's the link https://z4-forum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=122365&start=30
