WIll I need a new shift boot, I am planning to get zhp knob

Hi guys,

As it looks like this is a must do mod and recommended by many members here in this forum so I am planning on getting a ZHP shift mod. I have a 2006 z4 (non M), non illuminated shift.

So my question is z4 shift knob attached to the leather boot and if so do I need to order a new boot? Or the knob will come right off without taking out the leather boot if I pull it hard upwards.

The shift knob is seperate to the shift boot so no need to change,as you said just pull the shift knob straight off a little tip pull the gearstick into either 2nd or 4th gear just so you are not pulling it straight up a few members have had a few accidents.Fitting the ZHP is just reversal of removal.

As above really, no further parts needed. A direct replacement, pull off, pop on - simples

It may require some force to remove the old one though, took a lot of tugging to remove mine

But be careful as other in their enthusiasm have unwittingly caused damage to the interior of the car when the gear knob suddenly releases

I'm quite keen to do this mod, but two things concern me:

1) how does the ZHP look in a non //M? Worried it looks slightly out of place

2) how likely am I to end up with a broken tooth/black eye/red forehead?? :roll:

You can get it with a 5 of 6 speed cap as opposed to the //M logo. If I remember this was at a premium cost.

1) I have //M badged one in mine and it looks fine, but then I do have M-Sport seats To be honest it is such a small logo it really is hardly noticeable. Mafoo is correct that you can get a version with a different cap but as far as I know you have to order it from the states through leatherz... here

2) Mine actually came off quite easily :?

Just ordered mine. Cant wait to replace the old one. Will report back with the experience/review and the difference compared to the stock one.
