Hi Guys and Girls

I would like a Z4... My concern is that I might not fit in! I'm 6ft 4.... any thoughts?

I realise that the only way to be sure is to 'try one on', but I would like to save myself a trip if its a no hoper :?

Cheers

Phil

I have had a lot of tall folks in my car and most fit just fine. BUt I have one friend who is about 6' and he is miserable in my car. so I guess it is all about attitude more than room.

6' and doesnt fit? no way. im about 6' and its fine for me.

i have a friend thats 6'3" and he seems to fit fine as well.

That's what I said it's his attitude, He doesn't want to be comfortable. Won't put hid feet in front of him wants to put them straight down like riding in a bus. He has the room just won't use it right.

I'm 6' and fit fine and a passenger of over 6' would be OK as for driving best try one out i feel i am just about right

6'4"...wow, that's pushing it a little IMO. The rollbars are what would concern me, if you're considering a roadster. I believe 6'2" is the maximum BMW reccommends for the convertibles if a rollover ever occurs and you want them to protect your head - but I could be wrong, too lazy to do a search but I remember a similar discussion on another forum a while ago. Honestly, you would be crammed. But you might be OK with it, it's all a matter of how bad you want it and how much you're willing to compromise in comfort if anything. You really do need to drive one, and more then just around the block. To really get a feel, I would think you'd need to drive one for a while to see if it's something you will not have a problem with.

I'm 6' and fit very comfortably with some 3" to the hard top and 2" to the hoop top so that just about works for you.

BMW quote a 948mm seat squab to soft top measurement, which I guess you can compare to a standard car that you know.

im 6ft 1 and own a coupe, to be honest i'd like my seat to go back even half an inch more but i can live with it.

Another 6 footer here and no problems :) Guess it depends where your height is... long legs versus long body etc. Best bet is to try one...

Y'all are all 6 feet! C'mon, add another four inches to that  . Someone here closer to the 6'3" height could better vouch for comfortability when considering that height.
cj, even by your own listed measurments, he would be really pushing. Still, I say drive one for a while, it may be just perfect for you  . Apparently there's no one here within even an inch of your height to give you a true personal experience. Hopefully someone closer to your size will post, are you a lean man or on 'healthier' side?

FNI is right, you need to go drive one to see. Even if someone here is 6'4 they might have short legs / long body or be the opposite shape to you. I'm under 6ft but I used to have the seat fully back on mine, with M sport seats.

I think at that height you'll struggle with the roof down on the motorway or at motorway speeds, your head will be sticking up too far :dizzy:

Hi Skippy,

It'll depend on where you height is, from the waist up or from the waist down. I'm 6'1+" with a 34" Dockers slacks inseam and have 4-5" above my head with the hardtop on. The S2000 seat didn't go back far enough but, with the Z4, I have about another inch to go back. I found the Z4 to be easily the most spacious of the TT, SLK, S2000 group. The G35 was ok but the bolsters cramped my thighs. Another key is where your eyes look through the windshield. I have the seat down and I look right through the middle. Hope this helps. ...dean

I'm 6'2" and have no problem. BUT, not all 6'2" peeps are the same; some have longer torso's and others longer legs. You get the picture.

Thanks for all your advice people! I would say most of my height is in my back, although my legs are also slightly longer than 'average'. I think you are right, I need to try one out, so I'll have a run out tomorrow to find one.

I am used to being crammed into whatever I drive... That said, I've been in a TT so I guess I might fit in the Z4 if it's bigger!

I'll report back with my findings tomorrow... thanks again guys and girls.

Oh, on a side note... how does space with a hard top compaire to that with the soft top?

Thanks :)

I've got a Z4 roadster and Z4 M Coupe - head room seems about the same, though the roadster seems to have a bit more leg room. That may be due to the sport seats in the coupe having the extended thigh supports, though. Unfortunately, I'm another 6-footer, though.

With all the various opinions, you're better off going to the dealer to test drive the Z, which is never a waste if time. If you find that the Z doesn't fit you, what other roadsters are you considering? I've been told that Vettes are spacious.

Crammed in isn't the issue - take a broom along to a dealer and once you are in the driver's seat, place the broomstick on the top of the windshield frame and the top of the roll bar. Then think carefully about the distance between the top of your head and the broomstick.

Add into that the extent to which your head might hang down if the car is upside down and what you get are your chances of survival in a rollover - remember that at this point your car is likely still moving so any contact with the top of your head will likely result in a severe trauma to your neck.

The top of your head does not make a good roll bar......

Im 6'5 and I fit fine but I have the M seats which I think sit lower than standard seats? There is tons of room with the roof up and when its down I am just below the top of the front windshield so no probs. The coupe was def a no go for me as it felt very claustraphobic and my hair was scraping the roof. Your best bet is just to go to a dealer and sit in one.

Although a totally different issue to 'will I fit' I'm not convinced that anyone regardless of height is 'safe' in a roll over situation in a soft top car. Sure in an ideal situation where the car is placed upside down there should be room between the top of the screen, roll bar and head, however reality is that the screen flexes somewhat, the roll hoop has an inch of plastic on it, both almost certainly dig into the ground and use the head and a plough and a standard seatbelt even with tensioners will stop forward movement but certainly allow vertical 'drop'

All in all I think we need to keep Z's the right way up.

In competitive off roading where I'm often upside down (usually accidentally) I'm secured by a severly ratcheted down 5 point harness, competition seats, a full internal roll cage with seats integral to it and a full external cage caged linked to the chassis and many other points. I still get battered.....
