Will handsfree work as it is?

While waiting impatiently for my new Z4 to arrive, I researched the spec and am not sure if the following means I'll be able to use my Iphone 5 hands free to make calls and also whether this means I can play music using Bluetooth from my phone/ipad.

Does anyone know if this means I will be able to, or will I need to purchase extra kit? Or like I had to in my merc, have a separate handsfree system fitted.

S644A HANDY VORB. MIT BLUETOOTH-SCHNITTS. Preparation f mobile phone
w Bluetooth
S662A RADIO BMW BUSINESS CD Radio BMW Business CD
S672A CD WECHSLER 6-FACH CD changer for 6 CDs
S676A HIFI LAUTSPRECHERSYSTEM HiFi speaker system

Thanks in advance for any answers!

should do, for calls anyway, you will have a code in your handbook, pair the phone to the bluetooth using this code and it will recall your phonebook to the satnav screen. Mine worked like that on my galaxy s4 and 2003 z4 with bluetooth and satnav.

i would take that as the car has been prepared for hands free but not equipped, as the American cars are prepared but not all present so I would think you would need some bits to complete the installation

It's hard to give much more info when I haven't got the car in front of me, maybe I'll resurrect this thread when I pick the car up and we can throw some ideas about. I don't mind getting an aftermarket kit but it would be nice if the standard system could be used

the two inner buttons are phone function buttons. Left one is pick up/put down call, right one is switch up and down buttons from radio to telephone and back, hence the R/T.

My iphone 5 works fine with the standard bluetooth with the basic radio. The iphone is dead clever too, it knows to route google maps voice navigation cues to the speakers... works amazingly considering the first iphone didn't come out until 3 years after my z4 was built!

This sounds good, fingers crossed it will work ok then. I am considering using my ipad mini as a satnav/spotify unit so hopefully that will work ok too.

Picking the car up tomorrow so we will see!

Can you explain that a bit more mate? Prepared but not equipped? Still trying to figure out my BT nightmare so this may be relevant! Thanks

they often have the buttons, but no bluetooth unit, my old e46 M3 was like that, steering wheel buttons but no bluetooth unit fitted, most disappointing

Buttons on MFSW are there even if no BT. UK do not come prepared for BT, either they have it or they don't. It would appear yours does, but you will not be able to stream music as it was not an option on E85/6.

Pairing button in centre console flap is what you need to look for as easiest way to confirm BT.

Have the pairing button, have the steering wheel buttons, have the BT module in the back on the rear bulkhead, have the code from said BT module, phone pairs but no mic or sound detected :headbang:
