Will an AGM battery be marked as such?

Not sure what the obsession is with batteries, maybe I haven't owned my Z4 long enough. The term "AGM" relates to the material the battery is made from, it indicates performance suitable for, but not restricted to, start stop cars. Look at the [insert battery maker's name here] website, type in your car, and bingo you should get a choice.

AGM = Absorbent Glass Material. Nothing else, not Carlos Fandango (remember him?), not super duper, just another battery but better/higher performance than the leaky acid types of my youth. I have one in my Z3 and I can assure you that car doesn't have start stop.

Thanks Roddy - I asked as I want to use my Ctek to recondition the existing battery and not sure whether to choose AGM mode or not - cheers

Batteries are discussed a lot here especially this time of year when its cold and they begin to fade:D I guess its because these cars are so sensitive to a weak battery and throw up so many errors when they are low. So many problems fixed with a replacement battery its hard to believe. Throw in a forum where we get several new members every week who are unaware of how sensitive the cars are to weak batteries its easy to see then why they are discussed so often

Been using a CTEK on AGM batteries for years without any issues whatsoever. Stays connected when the car is in the garage snoring (which it does a lot of just now).

My CTEK doesn't have a selectable AGM mode. I'd say you're fine.

James you should really have an AGM battery if you have an e89, e85 uses regular, the charging mode wont matter as the agm mode is generally just a lower input so will take longer to reach full charge, wont damage the battery if you use it on a regular type, obviously if you do have an agm you should use it

OK thanks all - that's why I asked - I checked the battery and couldn't see any reference to AGM on it - no idea if it's the original battery from 2013 or not - I also thought I read something that said an AGM battery in an E89 would typically be of greater capacity than 70 but I could have made that up :)

If there's no date reference on all the labels. check out the tops of the terminals.
Sometimes the month/year date of manufacture is embossed on them

I’ve recently replaced the battery in my e89, an AGM 70ah. I’m not making it up

Out of curiosity I checked mine, it is a VRLA/AGM. Interesting that the part number 61210309269 isn't on RealOEM but I know it was replaced a year ago at the stealer. So 70Ah 720CCA it will be whenever I change it. Then comes the registration thing.. :|
