Will a Z4 coupe worth a long term investment?

Hi all
I’ve always wanted a z4m coupe..
I’ve decided to buy a z4 3.0 si coupe sports.
I’m paying £12k for one from bmw fsh high spec 60k miles.

I’m wondering you think they will hold they value or even go up in price?

What do you consider “long term”"?

The lowest mileage, best condition, most basic cars become desirable/collectible after 50 years.

I bought a Z4M roadster a couiple of years ago, it has cost me more money than I could sell it for at this moment in time.
I have really enjoyed it and it is worth more or less what I paid for it. I would not call it an Investment.

It'll lose money with miles as any other car, but it's not depreciating any more.
No one knows what the future holds, but you won't get 12k selling it again privately though imo

It’ll only hold/go up in value if it sits in your garage most of the time not being fully enjoyed.

I do feel the //M vert’s are presently undervalued & good ones are near the money you’re paying for a 3.0si Couoe. With the //M Coupes now commanding & holding strong money, it’s unlikely a //M vert will really loose much if you drive it more, as their prices have remained around where they are for at least the last 4-5 years, despite the increasing miles.

I’ve had a vert, loved it, bought the //M Coupe because of its shape... so see your dilemma... though as a private seller in the future suggest you have to think will someone really pay solid money, possibly more than a /M vert. Personally, I would question they would but if you are happy go for it, though what I think is irrelevant as the 3.0si’s a lovely car in its own right

BMW dealers will have a £3-4K margin in that car

I think the true value of it would be around the £9-9.5k region on the open market

Bought at £9k and looked after I don’t see you losing much of any money on it and if you keep the miles down and condition mint you might see a slight rise in value

Long term .., in my very humble opinion I don’t see them rising massively and if they fall it will be a gentle drop to a steady hold .. where that ends up I’m not sure ... certainly it’s a much better buy than a new 520d

Elsewhere the housing market seems to be cooling, there’s a possibility of interest rates rising, Brexit and possibly a Marxist govt coming 😂😂

The classic/sports car market seems to have gone off the boil and may be in line for a correction

The point of the above was really to say who knows 😂😂😂

But if you try and sell it in a few months I reckon you’d lose £3k on it .. beyond that it’s all crystal balls really 👍

I'm not sure that the 3.0si Z4's will ever appreciate tbh. They'll probably just stay at their current price

I think the ///M's should hold their value, if not appreciate slightly, especially the coupes

All Z’ds are meant to be driven, hence the reason we buy them. I worried about mine losing value, but you end up putting more in than you can ever get out.

Enjoy it for what it is, a great value, good looking and fun sports car.

If in 40-50 years you’ve still got it (and can get hold of petrol to use it) then maybe it’ll be worth a few quid.

The good thing is with these cars is they don’t drop massively in value if you look after them and don’t put silly miles on them.

If you’re looking for a car as a long term investment, buy a Ferrari...

No I haven’t as they’re a small tad out of my price range. :D

You're getting mugged at that price, they will probably have taken it in at £7-9k.

I'd echo other comments that it's not likely to make you much and the maximum you're likely to lose is say half so not that bad really when the entry price is modest.

I sometimes wonder what my C63 will be worth as it has far more chance of appreciating than a 3.0Si Coupe (which I had before). Then I completely ignore all such thoughts as I bought it for me because it's epic fun and great as a daily so I just drive it all the time knowing full well that the value is falling compared to similar cars due to the mileage. It won't be long before we're forced into boring electric boxes so I'm enjoying petrol to the max whilst I can.

M Coupe prices are increasing, roughly in line with what it costs to maintain and run them per year, so not great if you are looking for a short-term investment. But if you want to drive a great motor, look after it and get back roughly what you paid then happy days.

In the longer term, I think they will prove to be an excellent investment, especially if they are looked after, and owned by people like me, who really love their cars and will only sell for silly money! :D

I agree, a rare one likes yours Shaun that is only used as a weekend car should be a sound investment but the op was asking about the Si. :poke:

Paying 12k for a 60,000 mile coupe si sets you on the back foot right away in terms of holding its value. No doubt its a fine example and you have the full BMW service history that brings peace of mind for some, but I'd be enjoying it rather than thinking about resale values - as soon as the miles move into the 70k bracket you'll be looking around 10k max for a private sale. Bubble wrapping it in the garage and waiting a decade or two is your only chance of guaranteeing an increase in value imo

If you are buying with a financial eye on your ownership then you couldn't have bought from anywhere worse .
A 60k private sale would have been £9k-£10k & from here on each 1k miles you add will hammer its value hard .
As for any sudden rise in demand or values for them ?? Highly doubtful

unless it's a particularly rare car...then no.

by the time you've factored in storage costs, insurance, tax, MOT and/or maintenance as a result of the car not being driven for years you'll be lucky to break even.

the only exceptions are E46 CSL, Z8 etc but those ships have well and truly sailed.

Sytners Tamworth??

Yes
That’s the one

Having any second thoughts?

I think the consensus here is buying it mainly to make money might wash with the misses, but 60k on a fun car priced at a premium which can reach 70k very soon isn’t the most sensible deal.

Cars are like busses, if you miss one another will come along...

Thank you
I’ve made my decision
Its not the z4m I’ve always wanted
And it will get driven..
I think with 60k on the clock it
It’s not one for me
