Wifi

Ok, so got sick to death of having to reboot the Apple WIFI (Time Capsule / Airports) and this was even more highlighted when I got my Fibre connection with a cheap Technicolor modem / router which has been solid as a rock and has not needed a reboot in the 6 months it has been running. Everyone in the household favours to connect to this unit via WIFI rather than the Apple network which is also very slow (most of the time we are on the primary unit so not via the extended (and therefore lossy) secondary unit.

I have now been looking at getting an industrial strength unit and the DLINK DAP 2690 seems to be a solid unit.

Is the general perception that these units are indeed the type that will work better than the Apple WIFI?

WOW...I've been using an Airport Extreme for almost 3 years and I can't recall that I have ever had to reboot... :o

It is not just me either, once I have mine sorted I have two companies to make "Apple WIFI free" as they all have the same problems of WIFI just not working until rebooted again.

Once a week job for everyone it seems and I am getting tired of going in the coms room to pull the plug. I have even thought about getting a iPhone controlled power plug to be able to reboot it, but that uses WIFI which sort of conflicts :)

3 years? That is a first as the power supply fries consistently within 24 months.

I have had a number replaced now (am on my third) due to the power pack going, and the same for the other 2 companies that use them. All between 22 and 24 months old they go, without exception so far.

Airport Extreme here, several years old (defo over 3) and no problems.
