Why is it that the battery in smoke alarms always seem to start to fail in the middle of the night ? :x

The units are hard wired into the alarm system but also have backup batteries .
Im putting a new battery in today but it always seems to give the low battery warning at two in the morning. At that time I knew I didn't have a spare pp3 in my store.
 
I fixed That problem by smashing my previous smoke alarm to bits with a bit of wood :lol:

I now have these badboys installed. They don't do much but it's always funny when a smoke alarm begins talking.

I thought the nic regs dictate that the hard wired smoke detectors have rechargeable batteries that are constantly trickle charged, should the power be cut? Could be wrong but I expect there's some bright spark (ha ha) out there who knows. :thumbsup:
 
PP3 / PP9??

There was Duracell MN1604 in the units so I've replaced with an identical battery.
After replacement of both the battery in the upstairs and downstairs units , they've both given the odd beep but seem ok now.
Voltage of the battery in each unit was 8.67v
 
I was suprised that a friends smoke alarm started to do the beep. It kept beeping for at least 18 months before they changed the battery.
I thought it would run out after a few days of beeping.
